Hi @unoe,
It sounds like there is some confusion. I'm trying to help you determine whether there is a hardware or software issue.
The document Color or Black Ink Not Printing recommends replacing low or empty ink cartridges. The photo black ink needs to have sufficient ink to be able to print photos. The main black cartridge (far right) is not used when printing photos. If the photo black is low, please replace it.
In addition, it is hard for me to tell if the printout on regular paper printed correctly because I can't see the original photo. I can see that the photo printed on photo paper is washed out and failed to print in black. The photo printed on regular paper looks like it printed well. Is this correct?
Please compare the example of a Print Quality Report from Step 5: Clean the printhead, with your printed copy.
What were the results?
If the printout has no defects and is printing from the photo black cartridge, continue with the steps I provided to fix the print driver on the computer.
If the printout has defects, the cartridge is empty, defective or the printhead is clogged. Clean the printhead manually as the document recommends
If you have a defective ink cartridge or printhead, it might be under warranty. To check the warranty on your ink supplies, go to hp.com/go/learnaboutsupplies, select your country/region, then review the limited warranty information for your supplies.
Replacement printhead assemblies are only available from HP Customer Support or authorized service providers.
CAUTION: Wait until you have a new printhead assembly available before removing the ink cartridges. Do not leave the ink cartridges outside the printer longer than 30 minutes. Doing so can result in damage to both the printer and the ink cartridges.
If you completed all the preceding steps and your product still has an issue, service the product.

Hi @unoe,
Thank you for reaching out to the HP Support Forums!
I would be happy to look into the print quality problem that you're experiencing when printing photos on your HP Photosmart C6380 All-in-One Printer. Please remember to return to this thread and mark 'Accept as Solution', if I have successfully helped you resolve the issue. If you wish to say 'thanks' for my effort to help, click the 'thumbs up' to give me a Kudos.
It looks like the colors are printing correctly on plain paper from what I can see. Therefore, I'm wondering if you're not selecting the correct print settings.
In order to assist you better, I may require more information.
What type of photo paper are you using?
Loading the photo paper print side down.
Select Best or Max dpi for print quality and choose your paper type/size. Do not select HP paper if you're not using HP branded paper.
Here's a helpful document:
If you're still experiencing problems, please follow the steps within this guide:
To confirm that you're using the correct print driver, please download and run the Print and Scan Doctor.
What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor (did it print or scan, any error messages)?
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you. Good Luck!

I think it is the black that don't work. I just tried with HP Premium Plus Photo Paper High Gloss 13x18 in the photodrawer, and max dpi. Face down and same result.
When I then run the Print and Scan Doctor there were no error. But there were an option to install new software, and I coose that.
Starting with removing a lot, but have been hanging in the cleaning process for some time now (Step 7/12 56%)
I will let thus run for a while and see if that works. I have a feeling it is waiting pon something, but I don't know what
Inklevels are low on Photoblack nand Magenta according to the printer panel.
I just now have to wait for the installer to fininsh

The strange thing is: The Photoblack have had NO warning about low on ink, only Magenta recently.
But after reinstall of all HP software, the Photosmart came up with status ? (questionmark).
I did replace it (lucky to have one cartridge at home) and now it works!
I must say the ink disappear rather quick!
Not long ago I replaced all of the cartridges, and I hardly don't print, and for sure no photos for a long time.
But I am really thankful for all your support, good that you are there!

Hi @unoe,
You're welcome. 🙂
I'm curious, now that you replaced the ink cartridge and reinstalled the HP Software, try running the PSDR again to see if you get the same message about the software being out of date and it should clear the error status as well.
Please read this document for an in-depth explanation of how ink is used in HP Inkjet Printers.
Thank you.

I run the PSDR again and no errors this time.
And the testpage look great
Thanhs for all the help
It started with Win10, then I run out of ink and tried "cheaper" ink, and that was when I discovered the problem. But I had not printed on Photo paper for a long time, so I am not really sure what's caused the problem. I am very confident that I had Photo Black all the time on decent level.
I have had some problems with the ink, and have had to run the internal clean printhead tool a number of times, before everything looked ok (on regular paper). Then a need for a nicer printout and that was the start of this problem which
was now solved by new programs and new Photo Black.
It is strange that the old programs did not find that there were newer versions of the programs. I have a search for update running at least every month (a HP tool that came with the printer).
During the install, the program that look for updates did not install, I think that have been sent to HP support.
