I was following the USB steps here to connect my printer to my wireless network but there is no wireless option in the settings menu. I have reset the printing system and the printer itself to no avail. I also tried following the steps for WPS but my router and printer won't connect.

Hi,

As there is no Full Feature Software available for your printer for El Capitan, wireless configuration is not offered by its software.

From the printer select Wireless and follow the steps on screen to Reset / Restore the wireless settings.

Power off the printer and power it back on.

Ensure that Wireless Radio / Wireless is enabled within the printer's wireless menu.

From your Mac click the WiFi icon and select Show Networks, then select Join Other Network and connect to the hpsetup wireless network.

Open Safari, from the Safari menu select Preferences.

Within the Advanced tab select to show Bonjour within the Bookmarks menu, then close the window using the red X to confirm the changes.

From the Bookmarks menu select Bonjour and click on the printer name, the EWS page of the printer opens.

Open the Wireless tab and click on Advanced. (or look for Wireless Setup Wizard if no such options are offered.

Select an Infrastructure network and select your router, type the password and press Apply / Save, once the printer connects the wireless light should become solid blue.

Reconnect your Mac to your router and add the printer as Bonjour under Printers & Scanners.

Please let me know of any problem,

Shlomi

Hi Shlomil!

Hope you are doing fine!

I went through your step by step guide to connect my C4780 using my wireless adapter.

I do have OS X El Capitan (Version 10.11.6 (15G1108)) on my  MacBook Air.

By some reason, the HPSETUP network is not available im my network list.Screen Shot 2016-10-28 at 11.14.52 AM.png

Thanks for your support.

Regards,

Hi Raphael,

Have you restarted the printer after resetting the wireless settings as instructed in my post?

Have you enabled the wireless radio? is the wireless light on the printer blinks?

Click the Join Other button, can you see it then?

Try restarting the printer once again, ensure the Mac and the printer are close to each other, but not closer than 2 meters away.

Please let me know how it goes,

Shlomi

I'm having the same frustrating issue. The wireless USED to work on my network, but since updating to 10.12, nothing.

The instructions on the HP site appear to be out of date as there is no option for Wireless on the Utility. So I finally found these instructions but still no success as there is no HPSETUP wifi network. Typing in that network results in No Network Found. I've restarted the printer, the computer, my toaster, everything.

The printer works only if I plug in the USB cable and have it dangling across my desk, tangled in my desk chair. This is not ideal and I have 3 other computers I'd like to print from.

Does wireless not work anymore on the C4780? Thanks.

@t0rie

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP Photosmart C4780 All-in-One Printer and it works only via USB and not wirelessly. The wireless option is absent in the HP Utility. I'll do my best to help you.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Do you have other computers in the network which have Windows or a lower version Mac (lower than 10.12) that can print to the printer?
  • Do you receive an error message?

Meanwhile, I did some research and found that the full featured drivers for Mac Sierra 10.12 are not available for this printer. Therefore the HP Utility may not work correctly.

I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

Once you reset the printing system in Mac, please add the printer using the Apple update by following the below steps:

  • Download the Mac inbuilt drivers from this link: http://hp.care/2flF56z.
  • From System Preferences, click on Print & Scan.
  • Click the Plus sign.
  • Select the listed Photosmart C4700 series (This printer's drivers should work).
  • Click the drop-down menu next to Use or Print Using and click on Select Printer Software.
  • Select the Photosmart C4700 series from the list.
  • Click OK to confirm your selection and add the printer, then try printing using the configured print queue.

If the issue still persists after performing the above steps the please perform the steps as described in detail from this link to setup the printer wirelessly in Mac: http://hp.care/2mJ08U8

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Please let me know the results. Good luck! 🙂

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, no joy.

I've tried from a Window laptop connected to my network and it doesn't find the printer either. I've downloaded the latest drivers, I've tried manually, I've printed the configuration page of the device and it tells me that the Network Name (SSID) is SigmaplusEOL1 when, I think, it should be hpsetup? Either way, my network doesn't find that when I try to connect to the network manually. I've reset the wireless network on the printer, but nothing works.

Is it possible that the wireless on the printer has just failed and that's it?

@t0rie,

Thank you for your reply, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that the issue still persists after following the steps provided in the previous interaction.

Let me jump in with a solution for this issue in place of my colleague as he is out of the office today.

This issue could occur if the wireless component in the printer is defective.

Hence, please contact HP phone support for further assistance at the link: www.hp.com/contacthp

The way to solve the issue is as follows:

Print wireless configuration to know the printer net name

In your Router change your network name to printer network (not include password)

Connect your Mac to the "new" network.

Shutdown and restart your printer.

Print again wireless configuration.

Now you can find in the report the printer address.

Type in the browser.

Printer configuration page will open.

Change network name to yours, including passwords and all details.

Finish (no matter the page will try to connect)

Go to the Router again and restore the original data.

Connect to your network.

The printer should be there now
