C4795
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all. Hoping someone can help! I recently switched from DSL to Comcast xfinity and the only device that will not connect is my HP C4795 printer. I’ve searched the web and multiple forums and it seems I’m not alone with this issue. Like others, I get the “MAC address filtering...” error with a FAIL in the diagnostics printout. I have tried everything I can think of USB direct connection to input my SSID and key, push button and pin WPS, cycled restarts of router/printer/laptop, manually entering MAC address in router (even though it’s set to allow all/no filtering), updated all HP software, uninstall/fresh install of the HP printer software and probably a few more I can’t recall.

Really hoping someone can help me here. With my kids now doing school work from home, we really need this printer connected! Hoping to avoid spending money on a competing brand of printer as we WERE satisfied before this.

Thank you for helping!

Hi @Notveryhappynow

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I understand you are trying to connect the printer to the PC. I'd be happy to assist you.

Make sure MAC filtering is not enabled on the router. You may check this with your internet service provider.

On the printer screen, go to Setup > Wireless > Restore network defaults

Go to Wireless > WPS > Push button and follow the instructions to connect the printer.

If the issue persists, we will have to connect the printer to the PC using a USB cable and then convert it to wireless.

Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Try printing.

Refer to this document to know how to convert the connection.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for your response.

As I stated above, MAC filtering is set to “allow all” as xfinity routers offer only three choices (allow all, allow and deny). I also manually entered the C4795 MAC address in this location to “allow” just to see if that would help. It didn’t.

I have gone through the restore defaults procedure and tried both WPS and PIN methods. It didn’t work.

As stated above, I have tried connecting my laptop to the printer via USB. I go through all of the steps, enter the network name and password. The software checks the connection and returns the MAC address FAIL message.

i have downloaded every updated file and driver (even did a complete uninstall/reinstall). It didn’t work.

i am tech savvy and had tried all of your suggestions before writing my initial post. A simple google search reveals this is a widespread HP issue. I’ve seen multiple posts on this forum stating the same issue.

I need this printer to connect, otherwise I will purchase a competing brand!
