Hi @johnnyorwell,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue with your HP Officejet Pro 8740 All-in-one printer. The error codes you provided (C4EB9647 and C4EB9427) are typically associated with scanner or communication problems.
Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.
Restart Devices:
- Power off the printer, wait for about 30 seconds, and then power it back on.
- Restart your computer and any connected devices.
Check Connections:
- Ensure that all cables between the printer and your computer are securely connected.
- If you're using a network connection, check that the network is stable.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Go to the HP website, search for your printer model, and download the latest firmware. Install the update to ensure your printer is running the latest software.
Check for Paper Jams:
- Open all accessible areas of the printer and look for any paper jams or obstructions that might be causing the scanner to be busy.
Clear Printer Queue:
- On your computer, go to the printer settings and clear any pending print or scan jobs that might be stuck.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Power off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for at least 60 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on.
Run HP Diagnostics:
- Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool, available from the HP website, to diagnose and resolve common issues with printing and scanning.
Reset Printer to Factory Settings:
- If none of the above steps work, you might need to perform a factory reset on the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
