Came accross this after spending over an hour trying to set the printer setup "correctly".  Appears it is already set up, just got loads of blips!!  HP cannot even be bothered to put and basic details on the ALerts Page for the C7280, my recommendation is dont waste your mony on it get something else. Wish I had read these posts before spending my hard earned on such a pile of $&!*  What with the dam thing causing my MS office applications to close and the constant need to by pass the error message HP should be ashamed of themselves....

My C7200 series printer has wasted both my time and HP support's time since I installed it and got the duplex error message.

Contrary to what you say about there being no information available on this subject, there is some for the 7250 but it's incorrect

See http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/prodinfoCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=ca&product=3382185&lang=en

Unbelievably this says the following:-

»  Two-Sided Print (Duplexing) Option Is Not Available in Windows 2000 Even Though an Automatic Two-Sid...   »  Two-Sided Print (Duplexing) Option Is Not Available in Windows Vista Even Though an Automatic Two-Si...   »  Two-Sided Print (Duplexing) Option Is Not Available in Windows XP Even Though an Automatic Two-Sided...

This makes me wonder why would they even try to sell a unit that they think only works with Macintosh.

Had I known this prior to purchase I'd probably gone with Canon and their expensive inks.

 .

My other complaint is that I've been trying to see the difference between the three C7200 series units and I can't find this info anywhere.

What is described in these bulletins is how you are supposed to be able to get the duplex unit working when installed on a machine that didn't come with it initially.  The trouble is that it simply doesn't work.  I've already checked all this out and everything is set correctly but it still doesn't work.

Actually, that's not quite correct; the function (Duplex printing) DOES work it's just that the software (HP Solution Center) produces a message saying that it doesn't!  The error is in the error message, not the function.

The problem is HP does not care about the end user.  I took the HP  I bought back and purchased another brand that works in all respects.  HP either will not upgrade drivers so you have to buy a new printer or produces software and hardware that do not work without problem.  This is not your Father's HP this is a company that does not deserve our dollars.

If you connect a USB cable and go through the driver installation with the USB installed you can then switch back to a network connection after this install and you won't get the pop-up window about the duplexer missing.  I've done this for 3 different C7280s and it has worked in all those cases - not clear why but at least you can get rid of the annoying pop-up window.

Interesting that you've had success with this approach.  I had already tried exactly the same thing with both my own laptop and my wife's and in both cases the problem still exists.  Clearly this approach is not the complete solution.  You must have done something else as well.

HP Photosmart C7200 series Product Specifications

There is no difference between them. they are all part of the C7200 series and exhibit the exact same functionality.

The listed specifications indicate:

Copying specifications
  • Up to 99 copies from original (varies by model)
  • Zoom to 400%, fit to page (varies by model)

In previous AIO models the max number of copies and zoom would vary depending on the model, such as the 2610 or 2610xi.  I do not know the specifics but would expect the lower numbered models would have less maximum copies (perhaps 50 vs 99) or lower zoom (perhaps 200% vs 400%) and may not have the page zoom to fit option.  I have not generally found these to be significant as there are easy workarounds (copy 50 then 49 if you need 99 copies, etc.).

I just discovered the same issue. Here’s a hokey work around to the duplexer not installed popup annoyance. After you have set up the printer for network use then plug in the USB cable and create a new printer. Once you have the USB printer setup enter the printer properties click the Ports tab then select the same tcp/ip port used for your networked printer setup click OK. Set it as the default printer.

Now don’t delete the original network setup printer just rename it because it will be need by the HP Digital Imaging Monitor it’s the tool that sits in the tray, you know the icon with a green dot and checkmark in it. The tool will only work with the original network setup printer. I renamed mine by adding the word “Status” to the end of the existing printer name.

You could do this renaming step first.

Reboot.

After reboot the printer setup should run once again to install the USB fax printer. After setup has completed you’ll need to change the port for that as well and rename the previous fax printer. So when your all done you’ll have 4 printer icons, two network printer and two network fax printers. Make sure that the device settings for duplex is set to “Installed” and that printing preferences print on both sides is set to “Automatically”.

Good luck.

OK, finally got around to implementing this solution and IT WORKED!!! No more irritating "Duplexer Not Installed..." popup. Now I have to repeat the solution on my old XP machine.

The only problem I have now is that the installer apparently is having trouble installing the C7200 FAX. Keeps trying to install, then getting a Fatal Error     with error codes  "-error"  "-wStub" "[different 6 digit # for every attempt]" .  When I click OK, it shuts down the installer, and tries again in a few seconds with the same Fatal Error problem. Anyone have a solution to that?

Also, thanks to Bob Headrick for his very prompt help response and thorough directions. Unfortunately, it didn't solve the duplexer problem, and I never had the "upside down second page" problem

I firmly believe my soluiton is the best.  Return all HP printers and exchange them for brands that work.  This is the only way HP will respond.  They just do not care once it is out the door it is gone.
