HP OfficeJet Pro 8720

After printing a photo with 4 x 6 photo paper, I put letter size paper back in tray, and now i'm unable to copy.  Paper feeder doesn't work.  Nor does laying the original flat.  On "Tray Selection" on printer display I see two choices:

Default Tray (Tray 1) and

Tray 1 (Photo Paper, 4 x 6 in.)

I select Default Tray (Tray 1) and when I return to menu to copy, the printer stays set to "Tray 1 (Photo Paper, 4 x 6 in.)"

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

The Riddle_Decipher is at your service.

I understand you need assistance with changing the default tray,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

What is the product number of your product? Use this link to find it: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_2039298-1862169-16

Have you attempted any steps on your own before posting on the HP Forums?

Which OS are you using with this printer?

In the meantime, please try the steps mentioned on this link to access a related HP Forums post that seems to have helped many others: Click here

And try the below steps:

By default, the printer pulls paper from Tray 1. If Tray 1 is empty and Tray 2 is installed and has paper loaded, the printer pulls paper from Tray 2.

  1. On the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setup icon.
  2. Swipe up on the display, and then touch Tray and Paper Management.

  3. Touch Tray Management, touch Default Tray and then touch Tray 2.
