OfficeJet Pro 6978
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just bought a OfficeJet Pro 6978, went through all the installation instructions and have it connected on my network (hardwired into my LAN).  The HP Smart app sees the printer, and can initiate a scan. However, if I try to print from any other application, such as Microsoft Word, I get the following error:

Word can't print due to a problem with the printer setup.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Problem solved, turns out I had a driver conflict with an old printer from years back.  Once I was able to remove all traces of that driver and reinstall all new HP drivers, the printer worked.

Please install software and drivers on the CD to your computer first

The instructions specifically state that the CD is if you don't have an internet connection.  I logged into 123.hp.com/setup and downloaded the "HP Smart" app (the one that says "Recommended".   Does this not install any of the drivers needed to print? If I'm supposed to download the "Full software and drivers" option, then *please* update your instructions.  I've wasted way too much time fooling with this trying to get it to work.

Software and frivers are from the following link

   https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-officejet-pro-6970-all-in-one-printer-series/828...

Probably newer than the one on the CD.

Still no luck.  I installed the drivers and I still get the same error when trying to print.   So in Windows I went to "Devices and Printers",  right-clicked on the "HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 PCL-3 (Network)" entry, and selected properties, on the Web Services tab, clicked on the Webpage link.  It showed the printer as connected and I could even print a self test page from the Tools menu.  So why can't I print from Office applications????
