HP4500 envy
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

I have a HP4500 envy and it prints from 2 macs but only scans with one of them. When I try to connect to scan I get an error with code -9923.   The mac that works has an option on a dialog wiht a checkbox that says 'Enable scan to computer' while the one that can't doesn't have this.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

THanks

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Installing HP Utility on the other MAC may resolve this issue. Let us try these steps:

Click here to Download HP Utility.

Once installed, on your MAC go to Go > applications > HP folder > HP Utility

Click here to know how to enable scan to computer using HP Utility.

Try to Scan. Proceed to next step if the issue is not resolved.

Add the printer with AirPrint drivers:

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button  at the bottom of the list.

4.) Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

Select AirPrint from the Use menu

6.) Try to Print and Scan.

Let me know how this goes.
