Cannot print. Error message is "HP Instant Ink Problem. Cannot print. Connect printer to update HP Instant Ink status."
Edits -- 5/23 -- I have downloaded and run the HP Print and Scan Dr. and I still have the problem. When I press the Wireless Summary icon on my printer screen it indicates I am connected to my wireless network. But when I log in to HP Instant Ink it says I am offline. I have disconnected my router/modem, disconnected the printer and reinstalled my wireless network on my printer several times and I continue to have this problem. Any help appreciated.

Hi! @AZDan1,
Is the printer connected to the internet all the times?
Try checking the account after sometime see if the issue persists.
“Your Instant Ink account page has data on past deliveries and estimated shipments. It also helps you understand what state your cartridges are in based on HP’s data. Any issues will be shown with steps to fix. Please check your account page to see the latest cartridge information by signing into your account at “instantink.com
HP Instant Ink monitors your ink cartridge levels so replacement ink cartridges can be sent to you when you need them. When your printer is not connected to the Internet for an extended period of time, monitoring is interrupted, and one of the following error messages might display on your computer or printer:
-
Connect Printer to Update HP Instant Ink Status
-
If the printer is not connected to HP Connected you will be unable to print soon
-
Cannot print - Press OK to connect printer to update status
-
Press OK to connect printer so replacement cartridge can be ordered
-
Press OK to connect printer to update status
These mean that your printer has lost connection with the Internet. When your printer is disconnected, HP Instant Ink cannot update its status and the Instant Ink cartridges will stop working after a period of time.
The procedure for connecting a printer to the Internet is a little different for each printer. Try these steps:
Turn the printer off, wait 10 seconds, and then turn the printer back on. It may automatically connect to the Internet.
Press the Info button on your printer’s front panel to print a page with information about re-connecting.
Go to support.hp.com, enter your printer model number, and search for a document for “printer offline” or “connectivity issues” and follow those instructions.
Once your printer is connected to the Internet, go to Instantink.com and click the link to Sign In, which is located at the top right of the page, or under the 3 horizontal lines if you are on a mobile device. On your account home page, click the circular arrow in the top right corner of the Status section. Your printer should go from red “offline” to green “online” status.
Lastly, if you still have issues after trying out the steps. Please share us few details through a private message. So I can check the account details and help you with the issue.

Thank you A4Apollo. Before I posted my note, I read many other posts on the HP Community pages regarding inability to print. Everything in your response is posted elsewhere; I have tried all of these approaches and I still am unable to print.
Let me ask you this -- when I press the "Wireless Summary" button on the control panel for my HP Officejet Pro 8630 the name of my home wireless network appears -- does that mean I am connected to the internet?
I truly appreciate your response but it was not helpful as I have already tried all the fixes mentioned in your response.

Hi! @AZDan1,
Yes, it means the printer is connected to the wireless network.
Try updating the printer firmware to the latest version and check if it helps.
Update the printer firmware using this link. Click Here
Also, try assigning a manual IP and Google DNS to the printer.
• Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
• Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
• Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
• Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
• Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
• Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
Let me know if this helps!
Take Care!

As you can see I started the discussion a week ago; I am still unable to print. LAst Friday I cancelled my HP instant ink account, which became effective yesterday (May 27) and today I purchased non-instant ink cartridges (for $148) thinking I would be able to print with them, but I am still unable to print. I have responded to HP employee A4Apollo since the last message from him/her on Friday May 24 and I have received no response. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks for writing back to us.
As you have cancelled the instant ink subscription. Try the steps recommended below to solve printing issues with regular ink cartridges.
Remove and reinstall the ink cartridges on the printer.
If you have not done so, please stop Web Services on the printer.
HP Instant Ink > How to > Instant Ink > Manage Account > Turning Off Web Services
Optional - be sure Web Services is "off":
After you switch off Web Services, wait a minute and then switch off the printer.
Wait until the printer is completely shut down > wait a minute or two.
Switch on the printer.
Install all new HP ink -- replacing/installed "a" new ink won't do it -- all Instant Ink cartridges must be removed regardless of whether they have ink.
Refer this article to know more information about cancelling the instant ink account. Click Here
Hope this helps!
I hope you have a great day! 🙂
