HP OfficeJet 4650 All-in-One Printer

Hi,
I have a HP OfficeJet 4650 All in one printer. It was working perfectly fine. When it ran out of ink, I signed up for HP Instant ink. As soon as I installed the ink, I have not been able to print for about 3 weeks now. I got the error code 0x61000072 Printer Failure. Saying restart printer, if error persists, contact HP support.

1. I removed the new ink cartridges and cleaned the nozzle

2. loaded new A4 paper to the tray (from HP)

3. Reset the printer from the Support/Service menu. Re-configured to the wireless network etc.

4. Downloaded HP Smart and HP Print and Scan Doctor apps  [app said your printer appears to have a serious issue-contact support]

5. Checked for firmware updates, confirmed I am using latest firmware.

6. Power cycled everything [PC, router, printer], uninstalled adn re-installed with latest software

And only to get an additional error code: 0x61000073. Even scanning doesn't work. Odd, it seems to have broken after installing Instant Ink- Built in obsolesence?

The irony is, I'm using HPs own official instant ink, and instant paper. yet printer seems to have compatibility issues (even my computer HP!)

this is crazy. HP support are impossible to get hold of. What do I do? All they seem interested in is grabbing more  money- asking me to sign up for advanced tech suport plan as my warranty has expired...?!

Hi @dicentre227

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear about the frustrating experience with your HP OfficeJet 4650. The error codes 0x61000072 and 0x61000073 indicate a printer failure that can be quite troublesome. Since you’ve already taken several troubleshooting steps, here are a few more things you can try:

1. Reinstall the Ink Cartridges

  • Remove the Instant Ink cartridges again and inspect them for any protective tape that may not have been removed. Reinstall them carefully, ensuring they click into place.

2. Check Cartridge Compatibility

  • Ensure the cartridges are compatible with your printer model. Sometimes, even within the Instant Ink program, there can be mix-ups with cartridge models.

3. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor Again

  • Since you mentioned it indicated a serious issue, run it again to see if it provides more specific guidance after the changes you've made.

4. Factory Reset the Printer

  • Perform a factory reset on the printer. This often clears out any software glitches that might be causing the errors. Refer to the user manual for steps on how to do this.

5. Check for Mechanical Issues

  • Inspect the printer for any signs of mechanical obstruction (like bits of paper) or issues with the print head. Sometimes, something simple can cause a failure.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
