HP AMP 120
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have installed an HP AMP 120 printer from my Windows 10 desktop computer whilst connect via Wi-Fi. I have then gone to Windows Settings and added printer HP65BA35 (HP AMP)

Printing from Samsung tablet and Moto C phone works OK but when I try to print wirelessly from my desktop I get various results:-

1. MS Notepad - error message "The parameter is incorrect"

2. MS Word 2016 - print job goes into the print queue but then disappears without printing.

3. MS Excel 2016 - error message "Your file could not be printed due to error on HP65BA35 (HP AMP) on e01"

3. Notepad++ - this prints OK

4. PDF-Xchange Editor - this prints OK

5. Firefox - error message "An error occurred while printing"

6. Chrome browser - this prints OK

I'm confused why some programs allow me to print and others don't, I have a non-wireless printer and all above print without problems.

I have run "HP Print and Scan Doctor" ver 5.0.4 many times and each time I run it it says "Some issues were found and fixed with your product" but it still gives the same error messages when I try to print.

I have turned off and on my computer and printer many times and it makes no difference.

I have run the "HP Smart" app and Printer Information is at https://drive.google.com/open?id=1-ggV3HQHvHhucIrFm8isRC6D3tWurK14

Any suggestions?

Hello  Arc1950,

I think the issue is related to Access Permission for TEMP Folder.

Please try the below mentioned steps to resolve the issue.

1. Open the RUN box by pressing WIN+R key.
2. In the text box, type in %TEMP% and press OK. A Temp Foder will be opened.
3. Now in the Address Bar, click on LOCAL.
4. In the displayed list of folders and files, locate for TEMP folder and right click on it , then click on Properties.
5. Under "Group or User names", click on EVERYONE.
6. check if there is a Check mark under Allow for FUll Control in "Permissions for Everyone" box.
7. If no check mark then Click EDIT button.
8. Select EVERYONE, and under PERMISSIONS FOR EVERYONE box, click in the check box for "Full Control" under Allow column.
9. Click APPLY and then OK.
10 Click APPLY and then OK.
11. Restart the PC.
12. Now try printing , it should work.

I typed %TEMP% in run box and it displayed the Temp folder which I have moved to 😧 so it's D:\Temp - C: is an SSD which I reserve for programs and operating system.

I selected Properties of D:/Temp and clicked the Security tab, there was no "Group or User names" for Everyone so I added one and Allowed all Permissions, see below:

D Temp After.jpg

I restarted computer and tried to print in Firefox, the same error message displayed "An error occurred while printing".

There is a LOCAL folder at C:\Users\Alan Clarke\AppData\Local which is where Windows puts the Temp folder and did the same with that - added Everyone and Allowed all Permissions, see below:

C Temp After.jpg

I restarted computer and tried to print in Firefox, the same error message displayed "An error occurred while printing".

Notepad++ still prints OK.

What am I doing wrong?

Hello Arc1950,

Kindly try the below steps that should resolve the issue..

goto Control Panel > Devices and Printer > Add a Printer.
in the window displayed, select "Add a printer using TCP/IP address or hostname" and then click NEXT
Select "Create a new port - "Standard TCP/IP port" and then click NEXT
Now type in the printer's IP address under "Hostname or IP address" box, then click on the NEXT button. "Detecting TCP/IP" would start.
After which click the NEXT button and then in the next window under "Manufacturer" select HP, and then from right pane, select "HP AMP PCL3 Class Driver2" and click NEXT.
And then follow the on screen instructions to complete the process.
Now open the document you want to print, under PRINT dropdown select the printer that was installed using the above steps. And now click the PRINT button to start to print

Hopefully it should work now.!!

Jabzi

I followed your instructions but it still does not print from Firefox, Notepad++ prints OK.

I followed your instructions - Control Panel > Devices and Printer > Add a Printer. It displayed "No device found" I clicked "The printer that I want isn't listed".

Next screen selected "Add a printer using TCP/IP address or hostname" clicked Next.
Next screen "Device type" selected "TCP/IP Device"
"Hostname or IP address" typed 192.168.1.221 (taken from HP Smart Printer Information I produced yesterday"
"Port name" left blank
ticked Query the printer
Clicked Next
Next screen - selected "use the driver current installed - Printer name HP AMP PCL-3", clicked Next.

I restarted the computer and tried to print using "HP AMP PCL-3" from Firefox - error message "An error occurred while printing"

I ran HP Smart and Printer Information is exactly the same as yesterday, I have uploaded "Network Information" at https://drive.google.com/open?id=1uWDUiUdubRbebpZorLA8HRVh3g1whWH8 - I'm not sure if it is any use.

After trying the above I went to Control Panel > Devices and Printer > Add a Printer it now shows "Direct-35-HP-AMP", I installed it but when I tried to connect my Moto C phone to it and it asks for a password,  I tried my router password but the connection is phone to printer direct, not via router  - why do I need a password? what is the password or how do I find it? it didn't ask me to provide a password during setup.

Any other suggestions regarding printing from Windows 10?

Hello Arc1950,

We have narrowed down to issue with printing using FIREFOX.  I see that there are many people who had issue with printing using Mozilla firefox  browser.  Listed below are the steps that should help you fix this issue.

Reset Firefox printer setting

Several printer issues can be resolved by resetting Firefox's printer settings:

  1. In the address bar, type about:config and press Enter.

    • The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I accept the risk! to continue to the about:config page.
  2. In the Search field, type print_printer.
  3. Right-click on the print_printer setting and select Reset.
  4. Click the Firefox menu Fx57Menu , then click Exit.

When you start Firefox again, try printing the page with which you had problems previously.

If the above steps did not work, you may want to reset all of Firefox's printer settings:

  1. Open your profile folder:

Click the menu button Fx57menu , click Help and select Troubleshooting Information. The Troubleshooting Information tab will open.

    • Under the Application Basics section, click on Open Folder. Your profile folder will open.

  2. Click the Firefox menu Fx57Menu , then click Exit.

  3. In your profile folder, copy the prefs.js file to another folder to make a backup of it.
  4. Open the original prefs.js file in a text editor (such as WordPad).
  5. Remove all lines in prefs.js that start with print_ and save the file.

If something goes wrong when you open Firefox, close it again and overwrite prefs.js with the backup you made.

Now try printing. Hopefully it works. If Not , you may have to sign in to the browser and then try printing a page.

Jabzi

I did as you instructed and still Firefox does not print, along with MS Word, MS excel, MS Notepad and probably others which I have not tested.

Any other suggestions?

There went to updates for Windows 10 then I went to Device Manager and checked for driver update and there were no updates.

I then ran "HP Print and Scan Doctor", it found some errors and fixed them, I restarted computer as instructed but still Firefox will not print. I ran it again and everything gets a tick.
