No - Word goes into print queue and then disappears without printing and Excel gives the same error message I posted in a previous message.

Could you also install the Print plugins/extension for firefox using the below URL and then try printing.

I installed Print plugins/extension for Firefox and still it doesn't print.

 

I can get around printing a web page by using Chrome browser, which is not ideal but printing Word and Excel documents is a bigger problem.

No, Word and Excel give same error messages as before.

 

I will take my printer to a friends house and try printing from their Windows 10 computer, it could be that my Windows 10 operating system is corrupted, if it works on their computer I'll reinstall Windows 10.

 

I don't want to install any software on their computer, can you confirm all I need to do on their computer is go to Settings > Printers & Scanners and Add Printer after turning the printer on.

 

Thanks for your help so far, I'll get back to you in a few weeks.

Yes, all you need to do is ensure the printer ON, and then connect the USB cable to the computer ( Win 10 ).

It should automaticall install the in-OS drivers. 

 

In case it fails to install the in-OS drivers try the below steps ...


Connect the printer and computer using USB cable.
go to Control Panel > Devices and Printer > Add a Printer.
in the window displayed, select "Add a local printer with manual settings", and then click NEXT
under "Use an existing port" drop down box "USB001 (Virtual USB Port for USB)" and then click NEXT.
In the next window under "Manufacturer" select HP, and then from right pane, select "HP PCL3 s Class Driver" and click NEXT.
And then follow the on screen instructions to complete the process.
Now open the document you want to print, under PRINT dropdown select the printer that was installed using the above steps. And now click the PRINT button to start to print

I went to my friends and installed the printer using my mobile phone and going to www.123.hp.com,  it installed OK. I then tried printing from some of the programs on their Windows 10 laptop that were giving me problems on my desktop, it printed everything without giving any error messages and I didn't have to install any software or drivers on their laptop, I also didn't need to connect thier laptop to the printer. I could also print from my mobile phone after installing the HP app.

 

The problem must be with my installation of Windows 10, I'll wait for the Windows 10 May 2019 update and then do a clean installation on my desktop computer.
