I installed a new Ink Cartridge for my Color Laser Jet MFP Pro M281fdw and it displays Low Toner.

I've tried multiple things to get it to register a fully loaded toner cartridge based on replies from other printer issues:

1) plug printer directly into an outlet, not a Power Back Up.

2) Checked for firmware updates (Last Firmware Update is 8-22-2023)

3) Checked for printer updates. There are none.

4) Turn off the printer. Waited anywhere from 30 seconds to over 10 minutes. Turn on printer. Did this multiple times.

5) Put back in old cartridge. Restart printer. Turn off printer. Put in new cartridge.

6) Clean the tiny metal connection on the cartridge and the connections inside the printer (difficult to do) with isoprophyl alcohol and a Q-tip.

I'm kind of at wits end here. This isn't the first time I've had this problem with this printer, but it's been a long time I've had to replace the ink cartridges. What I can say is that this is getting to be an expensive problem to remedy if I keep having to buy a new ink cartridge because the older-newer one won't register. I'm getting tired of it. Hoping someone can help, please!

Hey @athanasiou

That's a fake cartridge!

However, if you purchased this cartridge directly from HP, then it is defective and must be replaced.

I don't think it's a fake cartridge. I bought it from Staples or Office Depot. It came in an HP box which was sealed. But I'll definitely take it back for a replacement, although without a receipt, I don't know that they will take replace it. We'll see.
