Have repeatedly received this error, "Print Head missing, not detected or incorrectly installed. 0xc19a0023" I have remove print head, checked alignment re-installed. Removed several times to clean all contacts, front and back with eraser, clean with 99% Isopropyl  alcohol.  Printer worked yesterday, after aligning Print Head. Yet, now again today nothing printing. What is the error causing this message? Is there no solution except a new Print Head, new printer, some other internal cleaning or some other part that is defective? Did update to hardware yesterday. Any online analysis to make a definitive deterioration of the cause of this constant, reoccurring problem. The last search said cost of a new Print Head as much as a new printer. What can you do to help?

@Jake701, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Printhead Errors on HP Printers!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

The error message "Printhead missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed. 0xc19a0023" typically indicates an issue with the printhead's installation or communication with the printer. Here are some steps you can follow to resolve this issue:

Remove and Reinstall the Printhead:

  • Turn off the printer and open the printhead access area.
  • Gently remove the printhead, ensuring not to touch the nozzles or the copper strips.
  • Reinsert the printhead carefully, ensuring it is properly seated and securely latched in position.

Clean the Electrical Contacts:

  • Ensure the printer is turned off and the printhead is removed.
  • Use a clean, lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water or 99% Isopropyl alcohol.
  • Gently wipe the electrical contacts on the printhead and the carriage inside the printer.
  • Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinserting the printhead.

Reset the Printer:

  • With the printer on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet and then to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and check if the issue persists.

Check for Updated Firmware:

  • Visit the HP support website to check if there is a firmware update available for your printer model.
  • Install any updates to potentially resolve hardware communication issues.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Zoey7886, Unfortunately the preprogrammed generated text as solution to this on-going problem, is the same as the other six that I see from years ago. Scenario, If I purchase a new printhead, as in my request I have done the full list of recommendations to no avail, including hardware, firmware and software updates. So send me the method to reset to the original status (correct name?). The fear is that there is some chip, capacitor or other mechanical problem. The brass/gold contacts are just touching springs. Then I would have spent $200+ and still have the problem. With the printer turned off, opening the door does not bring the printhead to the accessible area. I have now unplugged the power cord from both wall and back of the printer, waited for the allotted time, and will try to repair this error one more time.

Is new printer the answer????

Cleaning all sides and bottom of the printhead, reinstalled with cartridges and turned on. It then printed the two failed documents from yesterday. It did allow to align the printhead, printed the page, but then a message said that alignment failed. Something is rattling inside of the printhead when it is out without the ink cartridges. Many things could be wrong. Are you an employee as stated, or an AI employee???

@Jake701, I hear your frustration — it’s like the printer is giving you a brief moment of hope before pulling the rug out again.

From what you’ve described — especially the rattling inside the printhead and the repeated failures even after thorough cleaning and alignment — this points strongly to an internal mechanical fault in the printhead itself. Unfortunately, once components inside the printhead are damaged or loose, no amount of cleaning or resetting will bring it back reliably.

If the cost of a new printhead is close to a new printer, it may be more practical (and less stressful) to replace the printer altogether, especially since a new unit comes with fresh hardware and warranty coverage.

I know it’s not the most exciting answer, but it’s the one that will save you from going in circles with this error.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
