I updated to windows 10 two years ago and have been continued using by Deskjet without problems. My PC used both 2.0 and 3.0 USB ports. I have recently found that the printer has started queueing and not printing.
When I troubleshoot it says - "USB Printing Support is an older USB device and might not work with USB3.0"
I hadn't changed ports but tested the connection in both USB 3.0 and 2.0, but it still comes up with the same message. I have readded the printer, but again same message.
I have checked for updated drivers for the Deskjet 640c, but it says you are no longer supporting your customer with older machines.
The printer has worked fine and better that the Epson and Kodak I use for work. Im not into disposing the printer if its just needs a driver software update that you won't write for your loyal customers, so can you please help me out?
Many Thanks

Hi! @TECHTONIC, Welcome to HP forums.
I understand you have USB connection issues with your printer.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Did you make any changes to your printer?
Are you able to make a copy from your printer?
Have you tried checking using a different USB cable?
Are you using a USB 2.0 cable or a USB 3.0 cable to connect your printer?
As you mentioned you have issues connecting your printer using USB 3.0 connection.
HP printers are designed to work only with USB 2.0 ports and not on 3.0 ports.
However, you can try the steps recommended below and check if it helps.
Try using a USB 2.0 cable this should work on a USB 3.0 port.
Try connecting the printer to a different USB port and check if the issue persists.
Please try the steps recommended below.
Search Windows for device manager, and then click Device Manager in the list of results.
Click the Right arrow next to the following entries to expand them, and then look for your printer in each list:
Printers
Print queues
Universal Serial Bus controllers
Other devices
If you see a yellow exclamation mark next to your printer or the phrase Unknown device, continue with the next step.
If you do not see your printer or a yellow exclamation mark in the list, skip to the next step to uninstall the driver.
Right-click the HP device/Unknown device entry or the entry with the symbol, and then click Update Driver Software. The Update Driver Software - Unknown Device wizard opens.
Click Search automatically for updated driver software. Follow the on-screen instructions to refresh the device manager.
Repeat these steps for all device entries with the symbol.
Also, try the steps recommended below.
a. Press Windows + X, and then click Run.
b. Type devmgmt.msc and then click OK. Device Manager opens.
c. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
Note: You might have to scroll down the list to find this item.
d. Right-click the first USB controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers, and then click Uninstall to remove it.
e. Repeat step 4 for each USB controller that is listed under Universal Serial Bus controllers.
Note: Restart the computer. After the computer starts, Windows will automatically scan for hardware changes and reinstall all the USB controllers that you uninstalled.
