HP OfficeJet 5740 e-All-in-One Printer

MAC OS 14.6.1 Deskjet 5746 has worked nearly flawlessly for years. I just starting getting an error on the printer after it's been on for a few hours. The printer display tells me that there is a problem with the printer, and to turn it off and turn it back on again. HP diagnostics don't even address this issue. I could find nothing on the community boards about it either. I'm stumped. Any help will be appreciated.

Problem Solved. A few months ago I installed new Cartridges, so I don't know why the printer was telling me to align the cartridges each time I turned it on. I ignored the message. And after several hours of being on, the "printer has a problem - turn Off and back on" message would pop up. I'd turn it off/on, and the cycle started every time. Just to eliminate one possible source of the problem, I executed the cartridge alignment, and the problem has not raised its head again. Poor software if you ask me!

I  had a similar issue. I could not shut the printer OFF properly. I tried many ways of resetting, but when powered back ON, a blue screen flashed by too fast for me to see, then went to a black screen stating "Printer Error...try turning OFF and On again." (something to that affect)  I noticed the blue wireless light flashing throughout all of this. I cycled power again by unplugging and plugging the power cord in. Before getting to the error screen, I navigated to the "Settings" screen and re-set the wireless settings.

That seemed to cure it. I do know we had an internet interruption the night before, so I thought it was worth a try.

Problem solved - at least for now.

My HP 5746 started doing it again a few weeks ago and it won't stop. The only change I made was to take it off the network and use it with a USB cable to my MacBook. Now it won't even reset and work again. This was the best printer I've owned in the past 40 years.
