My HP Deskjet 3510 printer is suddenly having trouble connecting to my wireless network.
It started 2 weeks ago, and at that time I was about to go on vacation. I did a produt update right from the printer's panel at that time, that didn't work, and I left for vacation.
Since I've come home I have done all of the troubleshooting steps. I've tried both of the automatic wifi protected setups from the printer's LCD panel and they have timed out repeatedly.
I have turned off both the router and the printer.
I have moved the printer closer, but not less than 6 feet closer to the router.
I have printed out the wireless network test results and it says that the printer is unable to connect to the router. It says that the Network Nme (SSID) is a "FAIL", and "not set".
I've also printed the network configuration page and the IP address does NOT match the default gateway. In fact, the default gatway is listed as 0.0.0.0.
I read the previously posted solution but the link you provide for a firmware update is for a PC and I have a MAC. I'm no longer able to download any updates from the printer itself because it won't connect.
The only things I haven't done is changed the name of my wireless network or restore factory defaults.
Can you help?
Thanks,
Stacey

Hello,
I understand your printer is not able to connect to your wireless network and you have already restarted the router and printer. Please make sure you are not connecting to public WiFi, guest network, or 5 GHZ network. You want to connect the printer to a 2.4 GHZ network. If you are connectng to 2.4 GHZ network try restoring the printer wireless settings to network defaults and then run wireless setup to connect the printer to your network.
-
On the printer control panel, press the Wireless
button.
The Wireless status screen displays. -
Press the button next to Settings.
-
Press the down arrow
to scroll down and select Restore Defaults, and then press OK.
-
Press OK to confirm that you want to restore the network settings to factory defaults.
-
When the Wireless menu displays, make sure the blue light next to the Wireless
icon is blinking, and then press cancel
to return to the control panel main screen.

Hi, thank you so much for your reply.
My network runs on the 2.4 GHZ network. I assume it's not trying to connect to a public WiFi because I am pressing my router's WPS button in the process.
I tried restoring the printer to network defaults.
I ran WiFi protected set up throught the printer's control panel, both the push button method and the pin method and they both timed out.
I printed the reports again and got the same resuts.
Wireless Network Test Resuts says Network Name (SSID) Found-Fail, Network Name (SSID)-Not Set
HP Network Configuration Page says Default Gateway- 0.0.0.0
I considred trying the Set Up Wizard but couldn't find it on the control panel.
Do you have any other ideas? My husband suggested uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. Do you think that's a good idea? I'm not sure how I would even do that if I can't connect to the printer to install the software anyway.
I've owned this printer for several years and have had zero problems with it. But now I've spent so many hours on this aleady I'm almost ready to buy a new printer!
Thanks in advance for your continued help.

Hi,
I am sorry to hear you are still having difficulty getting your printer connected to your WiFi network. In this situation reinstalling the printer driver is not necessary. The printer driver helps the computer talk with the printer it does not affect the printer connecting to WiFi. Your printer is also Airprint compatible and drivers are not necessary for printing.
I would suggest you enable WiFi direct on your printer and test. WiFi direct allows your computer and devices to print with the printer but does not provide an internet connection.
-
Turn on your printer’s wireless direct connection.
-
From the home screen, press the Wireless button and then select Settings. If the display shows that Wireless Direct is Off, select Wireless Direct and then select On (No Security) or On (With Security).
NOTE:
If you turn on security, only users with the password will be able to connect wirelessly to the printer. If you turn off security, anyone with a Wi-Fi device within Wi-Fi range of the printer will be able to connect to the printer.Select Display Name to display the Wireless Direct name.Select Display Password to display the Wireless Direct password if you have the Wireless Direct security on.
-
-
Turn on your computer’s Wi-Fi.
-
From your computer, search for and connect to the wireless direct name, such as HP-Print-**-Deskjet 3510.
If you are able to print with WiFi direct then the issue is with your router. The most likely issue would be wireless interference. You may have interference for other wireless networks, devices, or physical barriers in your home.
https://apple.co/1XlnyeG - You can check out this document to try to locate wireless interference sources. You would need to check with your ISP or router manufacturer on how to change channel settings on your router.
You will also want to verify the router is able to forward Bonjour packets and the firmware is current.
You can also connect the printer via USB to your computer and update the printer firmware.

Thank you for your reply. I have set up WiFi direct and am able to print, both from my laptop and iPhone. So, I think you are correct in that it’s a problem with the router. I’ve had other recent issues with the router, I just don’t understand why suddenly one day it would stop allowing me to print.
Please see below for other comments.

I thought I had checked for interference on one of those reports and nothing showed up. I’ll check again.

I saw these instructions but had not tried it yet. I will look again.

The firmware on the router? Good idea. Maybe it just needs updating altogether?
I’m not sure what Bonjour packets are but can look that up.
You can also connect the printer via USB to your computer and update the printer firmware.
Ah yes, duh.
