HP 8720 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My auto-duplex was working fine for 2 years, but....now it won't print double -side for me (using Windows 10) but it works just fine for my husband who uses a MAC.  I've re-loaded the drivers from HP but it still doesn't work.  If we can't figure this out, I'll have to buy a new printer as I use it for my business and print a lot....I would be afraid to purchase an HP for fear I would have the same problem.  Anyone else having this problem?

Hi Echo_Lake.  I had already downloaded and run the HP print and scan doctor but it said everything was good. I downloaded the driver and printer software and ran it anyway but the problem still wasn't fixed.  I went to Best Buy to purchase another printer and to talk with the Geek Squad.  The Geek Squad advised me to call HP and gave me a phone number.  While in line, another customer advised me to uninstall all of the printer software and then re-install.  I tried this and it worked.  FYI, when I re-installed "somewhere" there was a tray 2 that said "uninstalled" so I changed it to installed.  This tray wasn't showing up at all before I did the uninstall of the printer software and a re-install....

Let's try this out:

Root level uninstall and reinstall printer drivers

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

To reinstall, click here.

If the issue continues, uninstall and reinstall printer Basic drivers from the link: Click here

If the issue still continues, install using the Windows Built-in Print DriverClick here

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

HP Scan + Print Doctor did not help me either with this problem.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • What seems to be the exact issue with your HP Printer today?
  • Have you tried root level uninstall and reinstall procedure?

Could you please reply with the product details for further assistance

Thank you for your willingness to assist.  The printer looks fine and works perfectly when printing one page.  The moment I print more than one page, or duplexing, then it will spool and nothing will come out of the printer after finishing the spooling process.

I have not tried the root uninstall, I will try that and see.  I will update you on this.
