The above printer gives unexpected results when set to duplex printing (manual)

It cetainly prints on both sides but :-

Odd pages are printed first followed by the even pages.

This results in the even pages on top .

For a 6 page document this gives Pages 2/1(on top) , 4/3 , 6/5 (on bottom).

Granted it is easy to place such a small number of pages in the correct order but very inconvenient for a large number of pages

If the even pages were printed first followed by the odd pages there would no need to rearrange the sheets - they would already be in the correct order.

The duplex options for this printer are OFF and MANUAL.

Please advise.

I carried out your instructions but I still get the same Driver options as before.

There are no  problems with Word  or Excel only Internet Explorer 11 .

For Internet Explorer 11 I save the web Pages in PDF format and Print from Acrobat Reader which has many print options that suit my requirements.

Thank You for your time and advice - you have been most helpful.

Hey @FLYNNE,

I see that you are having issues with the page order when printing from your Windows 7 PC. I can help you with that.

To start, make sure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet and not a surge protector. Once done:

  1. If the printer is connected to your PC through a USB cable, remove it.
  2. Close all programs you have open.
  3. Click on Start and open Devices and Printers.
  4. Right-click on any icon of your printer listed.
  5. Click on Remove Device.
  6. Repeat for any other icon of your printer listed.
  7. If you removed the USB cable, connect it. If not, click on Add Printer and follow the prompts to add a new queue for your printer.

Please let me know the results after following the above. If you can print pages in the correct order, please click on Accept Solution. If you appreciate my help, please click on the thumbs up icon. Both icons are below this post.

Hello There

Thank You for your email .

I followed your instructions but unfortunately the foloowing occurred :-

1.  I got a different looking icon for my printer - the fax printer was missing.

2.  I used the duplex printing (manual ) option for this printer  but got the same results as before.

3.  The HP Solution centre would no longer work  - I had to reinstall the printer to get this feature back.

Some Observations

Setting the printer to one sided printing and selecting the  "Front to Back" option the printer printed the pages in descending page order which of course is correct.

Setting the printer to one sided printing and selecting the  " Back to Front " option the printer printed the pages in ascending page order which of course is also correct.

Setting the printer to manual Duplex Printing - the advanced tab showed  the " Back to Front "  selected and greyed out.

which explains why duplex printing ( Manual) prints out the odd pages first.

In my opinion this is incorect - For Dulplex Printing the advanced tab should show the " Front to Back " option selected.

This would print out the even pages out first  followed by the odd pages resulting in the odd pages on top .

Thererfore all the pages would be in the correct order.

Please advise

Hey @FLYNNE

If I understand correctly, the issue is the page order of your printed output. Have you looked for the Page order option in the print dialog box? The specific term used may very from program to program, but it will give you the option to reverse the page order.

Let me know if you find the option, and if this resolves the issue or not. Thanks.

Hello

My  Printer is HP Officejet 4500 G510n-z Wireless

I think we are talking at cross purposes.

I shall ask my question in a different way :-

When I set the printer to Manual Duplex Printing and click on the advance tab the "Back to Front" option is selected and greyed out.

Is it possible to set the " Front to Back " option on the advanced tab as default for manual Duplex Printing.

I have tried to do this several times but the setting always reverts to the " Back to Front " setting.

Also is there an option to print odd pages only OR print even pages only for single sided printing  - not duplex printing ?

Please note I largely use this printer with the internet explorer 11 application.

Regards

Thanks for clarifying for me. Yes you should have the option to select odd pages or even pages when printing.

Your options regrading Front to Back might depend on the paper type and other settings. There might be something causing this to be grayed out. Take a look at this document, I'm not certain it will help, but it might: HP Printers - Printing on Both Sides of the Paper (Windows) (Duplexing).

Let me know if changing any of the other settings makes a difference or not. Thanks.

Hello

Thank You for your prompt reply.

Unfortunately the link you provided did not help.

On this printer I can select Printer Preferences ---->Printing Shortcuts  -----> Duplex Printing  ( Manualy ) ------> Advanced   -the " Back to Front " setting  is selected and greyed out .

Unable to select the "Front to Back " settimg.

I have looked into all parts of the printer including printer properties and can find no reference to "print even pages only" or "Print odd pages only".

Further more on the print dialog box  under Page range I cannot select " Selection"  or " Current page ".

Also Collate is checked and greyed out.

Please note the above is observed when using Internet Explore 11.

Any suggestions please ?

Regards

You've mentioned twice that you are using Internet Explorer 11; for diagnostic purposes, can you try a different program and let me know if you have different options?

Hello

I tried Google chrome and obtained the following :-

1. Two print dialog boxes to chose from :-

(i) Google chrome print dialog box  - This did not support Duplex printing at all but did allow printing even pages only OR printing odd pages only - also allowed printing in reverse order.

2. The other box , the default HP officejet 4500 510n-z dialog box did allow manual Duplex printing but with same results as before.

This dialog did not allow odd page printing only or even printing only .

Any further comments please ?

Regards

Perhaps the issue has to do with the driver, in which case it might be best to remove the driver from the Printer Server Properties and from the Devices and Printers, and re-add it again. I will outline the instructions to complete this task below.

1. In the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder

2. Choose ‘Print server properties’.

  • Win XP – With no printer selected, click ‘File’ then ‘Server Properties’.
  • Windows Vista – With no printer selected, press ‘Alt’ then click ‘File’ then ‘Server Properties’.
  • Windows 7/8, 8.1, and 10 – Select any printer in the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder and click ‘Print Server properties’ above.

3. Click on the ‘Drivers’ tab at the top of ‘Print server properties’ window

4. Choose the printer you want to uninstall and click ‘Remove’

5. Choose 'Remove driver only'

6. The next screen will give a warning, letting you know that deleting the driver package will remove it from the system. Click ‘Yes’ to say that you are sure you want to do this.

If documents are stuck in the print spooler, you may see an error, cancel any documents pending in the print queue, or try restarting the print spooler, then try to remove the driver from ‘Print server properties’ again. If it still won’t remove the package, restarting the computer and the printer should resolve this ‘in use’ error and allow the driver to be removed.

After the driver is removed, open Start > All Programs > HP folder > Printer folder > HP Setup and Software (or the printer icon).

The Setup and software screen will open and you can click on Connect a new printer.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue. Thanks.
