I've been using my Deskjet 2720 PCL3 for few months now, but it recently showed a use set up  cartridge error error...

And will not work, it kept showing E3 despite my ability to resolve it using some tips I got here, how do I go about it please

It's frustrating, for new original cartridge to malfunction this way

Hi @Maugo727

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The E3 error on your HP DeskJet 2720 PCL3 indicates a problem with the ink cartridges or the printer carriage. Here are some detailed steps to resolve this issue:

Step 1: Check the Setup Cartridges

  1. Confirm Installation of Setup Cartridges:
    • Make sure you are using the original setup cartridges that came with the printer. These cartridges are required for initial printer setup.
    • Remove and reinsert the setup cartridges to ensure they are properly seated.

Step 2: Reset the Printer

  1. Turn Off the Printer:
    • Press the power button to turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the Power Cord:
    • Unplug the power cord from the power source and wait for about 60 seconds.
  3. Plug the Power Cord Back In:
    • Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.

Step 3: Clean the Cartridge Contacts

  1. Power Off the Printer:
    • Turn off the printer and open the ink cartridge access door.
  2. Remove the Cartridges:
    • Gently remove the cartridges from their slots.
  3. Clean Gold Contacts:
    • Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to clean the gold contacts on the cartridges.
  4. Reinsert the Cartridges:
    • Allow the contacts to dry, then reinsert the cartridges and close the access door.
  5. Power On the Printer:
    • Turn on the printer and check if the error persists.

Step 4: Update Printer Firmware

  1. Check for Firmware Updates:
    • Visit the HP Support page and enter your printer model.
    • Download and install any available firmware updates for the printer.

Step 5: Align the Printer

  1. Print an Alignment Page:
    • From the printer control panel, navigate to settings and choose the option to print an alignment page.
  2. Complete the Alignment Process:
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to align the cartridges.
