Hi guys. I got this printer 4 months ago and it has been working marvelous. But this weekend when I turned it on the error "There is a problem with this printer" appeared, just after it connected to my wifi network.
I made several tests and the error comes only if the network is connected to the internet.
When it is not connected to the internet the printer works fine (prints, scans, all via wifi).
I have a MAC and an AirPort Time Capsule.
Is there any set up that solves the problem?

Now it is working. The problem was Auto IP. Set it up to manual and it started to work.
Thank you anyway.

Hi @JackNL1,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that you are getting the error message, "There is a problem with this printer," with your HP Envy 7640 on Mac OS X 10.10. I am happy to help!
Is this error message showing on the printer's display screen, or on the computer screen?
If the error is on the computer screen, try resetting the print system. If the error is on the printer's display screen, please try a hard reset, by going to this post, How to perform a Hard Reset, by @Rich1. It is important that the printer's power cable is plugged directly into the wall outlet, and not a surge protector. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
I would also double-check that your printer's firmware is up-to-date. Getting the Latest Firmware and Product Updates.
Hope this helps!

Hi JackNL1,
Some more questions for you:
- What happened when you tried to connect to the Internet?
- Is this error showing on the printer screen or the computer screen?
- Are you able to make a copy with the printer using the scanner glass?
In the meantime, please try the steps in this guide, 'Printer Offline' or 'Printer Not Responding' Message (OS X).
Hope to hear from you soon!

I am having the exact same problem. Why would I buy this product if I need to pay a professional to install it? I've never had this issue before with any printer. I have spent hours doing everything the trouble shooting suggests. No luck. I cannot do the manual wireless installation as the numbers do not align with the digit spaces available. I'm sending this back and will never buy an HP printer again. So very, very frustrating!

Printer will not print. It says it is in error. I have disconnected the power cord from the printer. I have disconnected the power from the wall. I waited more than 15 seconds as recommended. I reconnected the power and the printer turned on as was to be expected. But, the printer will still not print from my computer. My printer is a Envy 7640 and my computer is a HP laptop.
Please HELP!

Hi @3Rd_Beach,
Thank you for posting on HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for the First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
As I understand you are getting an error message on your HP Envy7640 printer, I'll be really glad to help you with this,
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Do you get the error message on the printer screen or on the computer screen?
Have you made any changes on the printer such as replacing the ink cartridges before the issue started?
Are you able to make a copy from the printer/
What is the Operating System installed on the PC?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.
Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.
If you’re running Windows, I would start by checking the installed printer software by downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor. This tool can diagnose and fix many printing and printer software related issues. Please use this link to help you with that information: http://hp.care/2biN2XE
Let’s first try and make a “photocopy” to determine whether the issue is with the printer or not. Place a document on the scanner glass and choose “Copy” option. If the printer is making a good copy, then the printer hardware is fine.
If the issue persists, I would suggest the next step would be to uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers, to provide you with the accurate steps, request you to provide the Operating system installed on the PC.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you.
