I just got a HP ENVY Photo 7858 from Costco. We tried the wireless connection and it wont work, so im trying to wired connection. When i plug it in my computer regognizes its been plugged in. We installed the drivers, but when we do it asks us to connect the printer to the computer via USB, and it doesnt recognize its been plugged in, so i select - will plug in later - it tells me the drivers are installed correctly. I try to print. it finds the printer but tells me its not installed. I then install the HP print and scan doctor, which can detect the printer, but tells me there is ap roblem with the drivers but dose not tell me how to fix it.
i have restarted everything multiple times.
I dont know why it wont installt the drivesr correctly.
How do I call HP? is this even a thing anymore?

Hi @ChrissyTina62,
Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.
Thank you for posting your query. I'll be more than glad to help you.
I understand that you are facing issues with connecting your HP ENVY Photo 7858 All-in-One Printer on the wired network.
Let's go through a few steps that may help to fix this issue.
And here are a few steps in the link: Wired Network Printer Setup (Windows)
Let me know if this works.
You have a good day ahead.

No luck here. Same problem for the same model.
I've plugged in the unit over ethernet and tried using the full and basic installers as normal. The printer is found, has an IP address, and even works over Google Cloud Print. However, it just cannot be found over the local network via ethernet OR through wireless.
Both times the printer has an IP address and seems to be functioning normally. Fails from multiple devices with standard Windows 10 firewall configurations. Not sure what else to try without downloading even more (questionable?) software packages from HP.
I just want the drivers so I can get this printer working locally. No special software, no updaters, no marketing material. Just the drivers.

Same problem with a different model (Envy Photo 6200 series).
Directing your customer to a solution by using an ethernet cable is not a solution at all.
Is there a driver we can download & install manually without using the installer exe? The basic driver installer doesn't work either.

Called the help line. VERY helpful!
- I removed the printer from my "Printers" settings in Win10.
- I went outside of the Win10 printer view and into the more classic interface.
- Added the printer by IP address (which the printer can tell you in its settings).
Worked like a champ after that.

I too purchased this printer from CostCo and had the same issue. Being an IT guy, I hate the installs that try to be smarter than an IT person and this install software did not dissapoint me. It is one of the worst I have ever had to work with and I wonder how many printers get returned to CostCo because of this.
So any way.
The fix was as described already, kind of:
1. I had to find the extracted driver c:\users\xxx\appdata\local\temp\7z.... move the install folder from the temp folder to the root of C: and rename it to something else.
2. Assuming you set the printer on the network already (wireless or wired = does not matter HP software developer)
a. Go to the website for the device - Edge will not like that the certificate is invalid - click thru going to it anyway.
b. get the host name = DNS name > This is important because if you used DHCP for the above step the IP address will change potentially.
3. Go to Windows Control Pannel (nicely hidden in W10) and install a printer
4. click on my device was not listed right away.
5. click on have disk and point to the folder you copied in step 1
6. Select HPWia_EN7800

I had similar problem. Just bought the HP ENVY photo 7858 from Costco. Plugged in the power. It connected easily to my wireless router and assigned an IP. Then the install went south from there.
I downloaded the bloated "full suite" to start. When I followed the normal setup wizard, it repeatedly couldn't connect to the printer which already had an assigned IP. Then I downloaded the HP Scan Doctor software and similar outcome. Oh yeah, and it recommended that I download the full "HP ENVY Photo 7858" suite again! As in, it couldn't recognize that I had it installed on my computer already. Great doc, thanks for being so observant.
Thanks to your comment above, I went to the old school "control panel" -> Devices & Printers -> Advanced Printer Setup -> enter IP. Then it went very smoothly from there and within a couple minutes installed and printed a test page.
It seems like the bigger software or hardware companies get, the worse their software becomes and it would be almost impossible to use if it wasn't for help forums like this! I also continuously received additional tabs opening with random ads to install gaming software, sell Ford trucks, etc.... Way to keep your own links clean HP! Disappointing.

To install the printer wirelessly, do that at the printer screen. If you have wifi, find the network then the printer and enter your wifi password.
To get the Interface [icon of the printer on your desktop or screen], you need to go to hp.support/drivers. Download the printer drivers and then install them. Open the interface and the options for the printer are there. I had to download the basics operation drivers and the other drivers for the printer to get everything to work.
