Actually - it's a M235dwe - Even the website I bought it from says "About HP LaserJet MFP M235dwe Exclusive HP+ model –
Works only with Original HP Cartridges, internet connection and HP account."
At this point I'm just ready to wash my hands of this nonsensical debacle. I'm happy with the Brother printer I have (much better print and scan quality).
As they say - sometimes you have to pay a price to learn a lesson. I certainly won't be buying any HP products going forwards. En**bleep**tification galore. Unless the trends in the industry change to be more consumer-centric and less robbing and pillaging of customers.
I won't hold my breath.

I downloaded the 20250311 firmware update for my LaserJet MFP M234sdwe but doesn't look like is unbricked it. I'm not sure if I installed it correctly. When running the exe I just was given a choice to select the printer from a rather crude window, then select Send Firmware, I think it what it said. That's it.
HP really doesn't want educated customers. They are a rip off. What company can get away with not even offering support for their products, even when the company corrupts their products once it's in customers hands. Absolutely fed up with HP. Will never buy their products again. I'll be buying a Brothers based on internet searches and YouTube videos I'm seeing. HP is just ripping off their customers.

That’s all that I did with my M234sdw. Cycle the power to see if that helps.
the printers with “e” at the end may not have an option to turn off the update since these models use the instant ink subscription and use the internet connection to monitor number of pages printed before sending a new cartridge out. I noticed that some of the knockoff cartridges warn they don’t work with “e” models. Probably because the firmware blocks them if not using a certain security chip that is on the HP cartridge.
Too bad the corporate greed going on to please investors. Can’t blame the support people. They are 3rd party hired by HP and only repeat what has been trained or told by HP. For the most part they were probably in the.dark. Most likely, the firmware was probably outsourced to save a dollar as most semiconductor companies are moving to.
Sad that the once respected American semiconductor companies like HP praise their bonuses more than than customer and employee loyalty.

Ok, so I installed the new firmware via the .exe, everything seemed to be normal, no more error 11. I try to scan something, all of sudden I'm not getting a connection to the printer, I turn around and it's flashing orange and "49" on the screen. POS, I'm done with HP, I want to chuck this thing off the roof of a building at this point. I never had issues like this with brother, I had a brother printer I used to beat the crap out of, kept it in a work van, etc, never flinched until it physically broke.

I didn’t see that with my M234sdw. Just tried a scan.
Saw this fix for ER49 on the community. Notice support suggests upgrading the firmware! Not again!!
Try resetting the printer.

I got "49" to clear, unplugged printer, unplugged USB cable, plugged printer back in, it started up normally, then plugged USB cable back in and it's working normally again. So if anyone else runs into "49" after the update, try disconnecting it from your computer and restarting the printer.

Fyi, a reset as HP says to do it, unplugging the printer and holding the power button for 30 seconds, did not fix "49" for me, I tried it twice. Then I found another post where it was suggested to disconnect all means of communication to the printer, that's when I pulled the USB and it worked immediately after a power cycle.
