Just a couple days ago, printer was working fine. Now I get this error: Could not start printer. Please check your printer configuration. Nothing has changed, so this makes no sense. Using Windows 7.

Thanks for joining HP Community!
Could you please help me with the exact model name or the product number of the printer?
Is the copy working fine? (If available)
Keep me posted.
Have a great day!
Cheers:)

Printer is HP 1510 All In One.
clicked on Devices and Printers, Printer Icon, HP Printer Assistant.
Error says:
"Windows cannot find C:\Program Files\HP\HP Deskjet 1510 series\bin\HP Deskjet 1510 series.exe
Make sure you typed the name correctly than try again."
applied fix: share the printer with the homegroup
This did NOT solve the problem, still unable to launch Printer Assistant.
Tried to install drivers AGAIN, and got
"Install Failed" error. Says The unsuccessful installation will be cleaned up and then you will be guided through searching for and applying a solution to this issue. Clicked Next.
Chose Search HP online for solution. Clicked Next.
Yellow box says: A solution has been found.
1. If printer is connected with USB cable, disconnect from printer
2. Click Next, and a troubleshooter titled Troubleshoot HP Installation Failure - MSI will be placed on your computer desktop.
3. After all installation screens have closed, double click troubleshooter
4. Delete troubleshooter when finished.
Disconnected printer and box DISAPPEARED, making it impossible to click Next!
Installation Error
Error - 2147467259: Failed to find driver packages to process.

I understand you have installation error on the computer, let us try some steps to resolve it-
Update the printer firmware
Download available firmware updates from the HP website
With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates.
For more information, go to Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware.
I recommend you delete the driver and root level and retry, follow the steps below:
1) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2) Select your HP Printer
3) Select Uninstall
4) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
6) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
7) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe”
😎 Click on the “Drivers” tab
9) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10) Select Ok
11) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12) Close Devices and Printers.
Now, download and install the full-featured software from here.
If the issue persists, uninstall the drivers and try the Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:
• Go to Control Panel - Devices and Printers - Click on "Add printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.
• When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.
• Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.
Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

What follows are details of my SECOND attempt to follow your steps.
I don't understand why my former post vanished.
There are NINETEEN things under Programs and Features that start with "HP". None of them named "HP printer" so I have to guess which thing to uninstall.
I uninstalled something named "HP Deskjet 1510 Series Basic Device Software"
This produced an error message:
Error 2147467259 Failed to find driver packages to process.
Went to Devices and Printers.
Selected Remove Device. Icon went away.
At step 10 I get this error:
"unable to remove HP PSC series, x64, type 3 User Mode Driver. The specificed printer driver is currently in use."

Thanks for replying!
I was able to check your previous post. You tried uninstalling HP Deskjet 1510 Series Basic Device Software, which is correct. Since it failed let us try restarting the print spooler and then uninstalling the drivers. Here is how you do it-
Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
Now uninstall and reinstall the printer driver.
Let me know how this goes.
Hope this helps!

I will need a lot more detailed instructions. Just saying "uninstall and reinstall the driver" is not enough, even if it appears to you as if I have already done this and would know how. I'm basicly flailing around in the dark with no idea what I 'm doing here.
I went to Add or Remove Programs, found something listed among the many HP entries that said "basic drivers" and tried to delete it. I got this error message:
"Error - 2147467259 Failed to find driver packages to process."
Since I have to guess what to do next, I tried to download drivers from here:
There are two driver entries here, and I have nothing to go on as to how to determine which one is correct.
I chose to download "Basic Drivers" the second entry.
This will be about the five thousandth time I have tried downloading these drivers, with no success so far.
As has happened now thousands of times, I get the same error message:
"Install failed The software required for your printer could not be installed. For more information, click the Details button below. The unsuccessful installation will be cleaned up, and then you will be guided through searching for and applying a solution to this issue."
And, once again, I click Next. This offers the choice of going online or of only using the Local Help system for a solution. I have NOTHING to guide me as to which to choose. I selected the online option. I've tried each option, thousands of times before, and neither one ever works.
As has happened over and over and over and over and over, AGAIN I get the yellow box saying "A solution for the installation error has been found" with four steps, but every time the "Troubleshoot HP Installation Failure MSI" does NOT EVER APPEAR as described in step 2.
I went to Start and typed "Troubleshooter" which I should NOT have had to do. I now have something with long complex directions. It says "Solution 1: Restart the computer and reinsatll the HP software"
Well, if I restart the computer, this box is going to Vanish, and I won't be able to click the links inside it!
At any rate, I'm now restarting. Will return when back.

############
Next, I go to this Troubleshooting HP Printer software installation box.
It contains a link in step 4 that says "Click here to go to the HP Printer Install Wizard Download Page" . I clicked it.
First of all, I deeply resent that HP rams Internet Explorer down my throat. IE is slow, slow, slow! A dinosaur. People use CHROME now! Wake up!
The IE link leads to this:
This page can't be displayed
Make sure the web address http://h20180.ww2.hp.com is correct.
Look for the page with your search engine
Refresh page in a few minutes
fix connection problems.
I then used Chrome and Google, and within microseconds, ended up at hpdrivers.net, downloaded the HP Printer Install Wizard.
But. It is NOT FINDING MY PRINTER, even though it is plugged in and turned on!!!!
The wizard says "no network devices detected"
The printer WILL SCAN but will NOT PRINT. HP is a multi million dollar company yet it produces pure GARBAGE!
