The error message "Printhead missing" appeared suddenly, printer is no longer functioning. Following HP online guidance I tried reinstalling HP Smart, but there does not seem to be a version of the app for my operating system (MAC OS Big Sur 11.1). When installing the 11.0 version of HP Smart, I get the same error message. So, I am stuck - any suggestions on how to resolve the issue are very welcome!

Hi @Beaulieu43,
If you have already performed the steps from the document Error Indicates Faulty Printhead and the issue persists, it could be a hardware failure.
Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.
If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.
Hope this helps!

Many thanks for your message. I tried everything you mentioned, with no success - I then called the local HP support (Switzerland - Zurich). The (quite knowledgeable) support person advised me to, as a last resort, do a full reset on the printer. After this reset and re-initialising the printer, the print head was good for a couple of pages printout - then I got the same old error message again. According to the local support person the issue was indeed a hardware problem, which could not be repaired and since the 2-year warranty period had elapsed there was only one option left: buy a new printer....(which I did).
I am a bit disappointed with this, after 3 years and no heavy-duty requirements (I am only printing occasionally for private reasons) the hardware lifetime seems to me a bit short.......
Thanks again, and kind regards
