Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I occasionally help out with computer issues at the retirement community where I live being something of a geek. I ran across this problem I have never encountered.  The printer was delivering offset characters, as if they had been printed twice, but ONLY in black ink.  I assumed it was an alignment issue for the black cvartridge so I went through the alignment process, printed out the alignment page, but each time I got the message "failure to detect alignment page."  I tried shutting off the printer and restarting, reseating the cartridge, and running alignment several times.  Nothing seemed to work. Ideas?  Note that the alignment page prints perfectly

Hi, Could you please let me know what model of printer? You could also try with a different set of black cartridge, cause if the alignment page is not printed correctly and then if you have to scan the page to complete the alignment process, it wont detect the page.

It's a 3830.  I will suggest they get a new cartridge.
