HP Officejet Pro 8715
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)
My printer HP Officejet Pro 8715 will not send or receive a fax. Says ‘no answer’ when sending and ‘unsuccesful’ when receiving. Very frustrating.

I currently have a HP Officejet 7200 which has seen better days. This sends and receives a fax fine. Using the same socket and cable I’ve connected it to my new printer and it doesn’t work!!!

Although I’m using a PBX system this line goes straight to an outside line with no need for a prefix. Like I mentioned before my old fax machine works fine. I can’t use the cable that came with the new printer as my wall socket is the bt master socket type not the small square one. So I’m not using this lead but as mentioned above my existing cable works fine on my previous one.

Can anyone help, not sure what I can try next?

Cheers, D

Hi @GOrDy87

Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

I have gone through your post and I see that you are having issues sending and receiving Fax

I'd like to help.

Please try these steps.

  1. Select Test, Run Fax Test, or Test Fax from the fax setup menu on the printer control panel.

  2. Wait while the printer prints the Fax Test Report.

  3. Review the report.

    • If the report indicates the printer passed the test and your printer continues to have problems faxing, change any fax settings listed in the report to the correct settings.

Next, send a fax to HP's fax test service

Send a fax to 1-888-HPFaxme (1-888-473-2963). The fax service receives faxes and returns faxes within 5 to 7 minutes to the number contained in the fax header.

Let me know if the Fax test works.

Also follow the instructions in this Link

Keep me posted how it goes.

Thank you. 🙂

Hi the test fax failed. Said ‘no answer’. Think my issue might be something to do with the fax cable not being compatible with my BT wall socket. I am using an adapter to change my socket from BT to RJ11 so that I can use the cable that came with the fax machine. But still not working.

Do you know how the telephone cables should be paired? Is the model 7810 using a crossover cable? Does the fax require 1 or 2 pairs to work? Also Does it require 24v or 48v down the phone wire to work?
