HP PageWide Pro 477dw Multifunction Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Printer requested a firmware update and indicated on the control panel that update was successful.  Immediately following that notice printer disappeared from network. Power button wouldn't re-set.  Rebooted by unplugging. Printer remains unavailable and both control panel screen and power button both remain lighted but unresponsive. Network diagnostics do not reach printer.  Unchanged after repeated hard resets.

Follow all these steps:

1. Download the latest firmware from the official HP page

2. Rename the .exe file to .zip

3. Unzip that file (using 7zip)

4. Find the .ful2 file in the unzipped folder

5. Copy the .ful2 file onto a newly formatted USB stick
6. Make sure the printer is off (may need to unplug it)

7. Insert the USB stick into the front USB slot of the printer

8. Turn the printer on while holding the Power button down (takes about 5 seconds)

9. Let go of power button when home and back arrow icon on the touchscreen are illuminated

10. Press Home Back Home Home - this lets you enter the blue screen menu

11. Try to press "Reflash". If it works, great! You're on your way

(12. If it doesn't work, repeat steps 8 -10.

13. Now that you're back at the hidden blue-screen menu press "Menu" then Flash from USB (I think that's what it said))

14. Hopefully this works and now your printer is unbricked and the firmware is fully updated.

You will need to restart the printer with the usb memory stick with the new firmware in the root directory of this.

1. Download the windows firmware installer from the HP support page.

2. Rename the file form .exe to .zip extension

3. open the file with win-zip or 7-zip to see all the files in the executable (windows wont open it - but 7Zip will)

4. You’ll find the firmware file (.ful2 extension) in the root of the zip file

5. Extract and copy the .ful2 file to the usb drive

6. plug the usb drive into the back usb port on the printer

7. Plug the printer into the power while holding down the printers power button

8. the printer will go black screen. Tap the screen a number of times and you will see a menu come up, one of the options that will be in that menu will be to reflash the device. Select this option and it will read the firmware off the usb... once done it seemed to fix it.

Hope this helps someone else.

Matthew,  I am unable to rename the file.  I downloaded to my desktop and it shows the download without the .exe.  Is there another way to rename or extract the .ful2 file?

I have tried this but when I hit REFLASH, a green screen comes up and displays 12345

I fixed this by contacting HP Support. Downloaded firmware update file from their supplied link and copied to USB thumb drive. Booted HP into a hidden menu under their guidance. Selected reflash. All fixed.

Matthew you're bloody marvellous.  This worked and ended days of frustration.  Thank you very, very much!

I also had the green screen but kept trying and eventually managed to hit the Reflash option at the top right of the blue screen before it disappeared.

Excellent!  That worked for me. Thanks.

FWIW, I got there exactly via steps 1-10 and then by pressing MENU and *then* REFLASH

Think I chose the 3rd option from the MENU button. Something to do with a full, clear re-install.

Initially didn't work, so I went back to do it again, and the printer seemed to boot up to the HP screen, then it just started installing the update itself.

All a bit odd, but worked somehow...

Make sure you turn off Auto Updates once it's all working!

Weeks without the printer, and a full day to figure it out. I'll send you the bill HP!

Thanks
