I completed the steps as you mentioned.
Under "Configuration Summary" The SSID was successfully changed to now match my wireless network.
Still, under "Diagnostic Summary" for "Network Name SSID Found" it says fail. **bleep**!
I tried restarting printer, but still matches my Wireless SSID, so I can't access the IP address.
Yikes! Beyond Frustrated!
Any help would be appreciated.

Figured out for my Mac Time Capsule, I have to change the configs to something more basic with Airport Utility, then hold down option to get to 128 WEP encryption, which I apparently chose when configuring the printer.
When I changed the password of my Time Capsule to match the one I chose for the printer, it said it was not a valid 128 bit WEP key.
Yikes again. I give up. Not to mention the 128 WEP is apparently ancient.
Anyway to get back into the printer settings by getting it to have an IP address again???

After the experience of reconfiguring my router, installing and re-installing software, chanting ancient spells and burning sacrificial offerings in an attempt to work around the absurd limitations of the C4780 I will never buy another HP product. I have struggled for hours -- days -- weeks to set this POS up on OSX 10.9 and it is impossible. It was more straightforward and user-friendly to install first-generation inkjet printers on a Windows 3.1 machine than to set this up for wireless use on OSX. Never again, HP.

vs604's solution is gold! After wasting about 10 hours on this yesterday (including being up until 1:30 in the morning, plus taking an unplanned half day off today, I finally stumbled upon this message and tried it out. It worked for me with a couple tweaks:
1. I had to enter the C4780's menu and "Restore network defaults" as step one. That reset the network name that the printer looks for to "SigmaplusEOL1".
2. I had already uninstalled and reinstalled the C4780 software numerous times. I did so one last time, then ran through the setup after completing vs604's steps. The software could still not seem to "find" the printer even when connected by USB! Ultimately I found a screen in the setup dialog screens that allowed me to search for the printer's IP address. I did so using the IP address indicated on the wireless network test report (see vs604's step 5). Then the software magically found the printer and successfully completed the setup.

It worked, though I hit a glitch in "Printer setting consistent with wireless router setting" FAIL, making "IP Address = Not applicable. I had a bit of trouble finding Security Mode in Belkin's security tab to shut off the password. Once that was actually accomplished, this worked very well, thank you. It only took about 5 hours before I thought to Google "SigmaplusEOL1" What the hell is that anyway? What fun it is to obsess! Thanks HP!

Having installed a new BT Hub I was just about to get a new printer because I could not get any pc to see my HP Photosmart C4780 to connect wirelessly. I printed off Wireless Network Test Report and there was: "SigmaplusEOL1" instead of my Hub ID. I followed the steps outlined in post below exactly and although a bit wary of changing SSID etc it worked a treat. Thank you so much fo the steer.

The earlier SSID name poste appears to provide the answer, given that you can disable your router's security option. However AT&T provides a router that will not let me disable the security option, even momentarily, so that I my printers Wireless Network Test will return an IP Address.
Short of trying to buy a router that's compatible with AT&T (they assure me those don't exist but I will try a more reliable source if it comes to that), or switching to Time Warner Cable which will allow me to use my Belkin router, I suspect there's one other option.
My Photosmart C4780 software installation craps out during "downloading updates" and never successfully installs software and most recent drivers. I can print with a USP connection but I cannot access the Network Configuration screen. I've tried using HP Print and Scan Doctor, and HP Print Install Wizard. Both failed. I tried installing from the HP Photosmart C4700 All-in-One Printer series Basic Drivers - PS_AIO_06_C4700_USW_Basic_Win_enu_140_175.exe. It failed in the same way.
Can anyone help?
Thank you.

I know the answer was written a long time ago but I just had to register only to say 'THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!' I spent hours today trying to figure out this issue after changing my fios router and did everything HP suggested to no avail, including looking for a wifi named "hp setup" which didn't exist after going back to network defaults, etc . It took a customer to actually deal with this problem. HP should be ashamed! If this printer breaks I'm most definitely going to buy one from a different company. This is my 2nd HP Printer that has caused problems for our household and I'll make sure it'll be the last.
VS604, You're a GENIUS! Your step-by-step instructions were spot on. Again, Thank you sooooo much!!

Thanks a lot Vs604! Even 5 years after the date you posted your solution it seems to be the (only?) one that really works. Great job! For the last couple of weeks I have tried everything to fix this issue without any success. Now finally I am able to use the wireless feature of the C4780 again (which was basically the reason for buying this printer). However, it would be so much more convenient if HP would come up with solutions for this problem that obviously started allready 5 years ago.
