Just in the last few days, I am no longer able to connect to my printer on any laptop on my home network. I had not made any changes to my settings or laptop. I receive the following message when I print the Web Access Test Results; "This printer is currently configured with a gateway address that cannot be accessed. " I have tried all of the solutions I could find in HP forums; unplugging the router, turning off the printer. Restoring default settings and re-installing the printer. Setting a static IP address, etc. The printer is connected to the local network and I can print from mobile devices using the direct connect. I cannot print from any laptop. Please help!

Hey there! @TWDFW, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!
I understand you are getting an error Gateway address cannot be accessed when you connect your printer to the laptop.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Did you make any changes to your printer?
As you mentioned you are getting an error Gateway address cannot be accessed when you connect your printer to the laptop.
To start, make sure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet and not a surge protector. Once done, on the printer click on the Wireless icon that looks like a radio tower now:
If you see a line that says Status: Not Connected, the printer is not connected to a wireless network. Click on the gear and run the Wireless Setup Wizard to connect your printer to your wireless network.
If the IP Address starts with 169.254, the printer is not obtaining a proper IP Address from your router. Contact your internet provider or whoever provided you with your router to determine why the router is not assigning proper IP Addresses.
If the IP Address starts with 172, the printer is connected to a guest network. Contact your internet provider or whoever provided you with your router for assistance with disabling the guest network.
If the IP Address starts with 192.168 or 10, the printer is properly connected to a wireless network. Please see below.
If the IP Address starts with any other number, the network is being maintained. Contact whoever maintains your network for assistance.
Now, on the printer click on the web services icon in the bottom left corner of the display, then Accept and Yes to enable web services.
Also, try assigning a google DNS to your printer and check if it helps.
First, please print a wireless test report to get the printer's IP address.
1. Once you have the printer's IPV4 IP address, open your internet browser and enter the IP address in the address bar.
2. Go to the Network or Wireless tab across the top.
3. On the left-hand side click on Network or Wireless.
4. Click on Network address (IPV4 address)
5. From here you can set a static IP address and add DNS settings.
6. On the DNS settings, change it to Manual.
7. For the Preferred DNS enter: 8.8.8.8 and Alternate DNS: 8.8.4.4 (without periods)
8. Click Apply.
9. Try turning the printer off and on again.
10. Press the Web Services icon again.
Try restoring the printer to factory defaults if the issue still persists. And connect the printer to the network.
1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ).
2. Touch Printer Maintenance.
3. Touch Restore.
4. Touch Restore Settings.
5. Select which function you would like to restore to the original factory settings: ● Network
6. Touch Continue. A message appears stating that the settings will be restored.
7. Touch Yes.

I finallly found the solution, I have AT&T Uverse and a Motorola Router. Unplugging the power source for 30 seconds wasn't working. I did a restart after logging into my IP address and that seems to have corrected the problem.

MrRobot
You nailed the default IP address problem--exactly my problem.
However, I've unplugged, waited 30 sec, turned on and turned off without any change. I attempted to enter the 16..254.33.104 address to Google but it noted that the device was not responding.
As the other person noted, I have done nothing to this printer. I have another printer in my study that is working fine. I have upgraded to Mojave 10.14, but the printer upstairs in my study works just fine with airprint.
How do I correctly determine the gateway? The upstairs printer is cabled in so I am not able to determine an address from it although it does airprint.
Open to suggestions, Mr Robot. TY

Hi, I'm afraid @A4Apollo is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out. However, for an accurate solution, I would need more details:
Are you having issues with HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer?
What's the make and model of your router?
Is the printer connected to the router using an Ethernet cable?
Could you also print network configuration page from the printer that you are having issues. In order to print the network configurations page:
1.) From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, touch ( Setup ).
2.) Touch Reports.
3.) Select a Network configuration page.
Let me know!
