Hi @saarb737,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like your HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2645 is locked into a state where it requires ink in order to function, even for scanning. This is a common limitation for certain HP printers that are designed to ensure that ink is available, even for tasks like scanning.
Here’s what you can try to bypass this.
Install Ink Cartridges: Even though you only want to scan, the printer might not allow you to proceed without the cartridges installed, as it expects them for basic functionality. Try inserting the ink cartridges, even if they are empty, just to get past this stage. You can remove them once the scan process is complete.- Use HP Smart App: Instead of using the printer's control panel, try scanning directly from the HP Smart app on your PC or mobile device. It should allow you to bypass the printer's interface and directly access the scanning function without needing to press "Continue" on the printer itself.
- Check for Firmware Updates: Some printers might have issues fixed in firmware updates. Check the HP website or the HP Smart app to see if there are any available updates for your printer.
- Reset the Printer: If none of the above options work, try performing a hard reset by turning off the printer, unplugging it for a few minutes, and then plugging it back in. This may reset the printer's behavior.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
