Since Yahoo/Gmail are both now requiring secure connections, I updated to the latest firmware (20131118 53.222.8) to gain SSL Support.
I've enabled "SSL Support for SMTP" and I've enabled "SMTP Authentication".
Several tests:
1. Over ports 465 and 587 I get "’smtp.gmail.com’ is not responding or is not a valid SMTP Gateway Server" in the web interface via the "test" button.
2. Over port 25 I get "’smtp.gmail.com’ is a valid SMTP Gateway Server" in the web interface. Hurraaah! But, when I try to scan and email on the printer, it says "E-mail Gateway is not responding"
On the same network, I've confirmed with Apple Mail and Outlook that my settings are correct, infact, both Yahoo and Gmail work over 25, 465, and 587.
I've also confirmed connection with Telnet.
I've also confirmed via the printer's ping test, that it can reach these external gateway's ip addresses.
I've cold reset the machine via the web interface.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to further trouble shoot this? Is there any advance logging on the machine that would show these atttempts to connect to the gateway?

Ok I have the M3035 as well upgraded the firmware adding SSL to SMTP send. Here's the problem both POP3 and SMTP have to be enabled so 995 plus SSL and 465 plus SSL Since the M3035 scans to e:mail and has no receive function we can't enable both. You can test this your self remove SSL from either pop or smtp and you will lose your connection to Port 465.
I am trying to figure out a work around. If I come up with something I will post back if anyone else has info it would be appreciated

I am having problems with this too. I have updated to the latest firmware and still cannot get it to even connect from teh web page test. I can't even get it to connect to a known port 25 no SSL smtp gateway.

What worked for me was this:
After entering the Primary and Secondary DNS addresses, I had to disable connection from less secure sources in my email address (in my case Gmail).
Google was blocking my device (scanner) from logging in to the Gmail account I had created for this purpose. The scanner was considered as a LESS SECURE APP.
The following link should take you to the Gmail configuration page: https://myaccount.google.com/u/1/lesssecureapps?rfn=27&rfnc=1&eid=1239705026357525213&et=1&asae=2&pl...
Hope this helps
