HP Office Jet 4635 All In One
macOS 10.12 Sierra

MKazi has recently helped with my problem. I posted that I could not get printer aligned, printer will not print black & white but did print in black using colour option. Printer did not print test page after cleaning ink heads. Printer receives instructions to print but only prints alignment page regardless of request from computer.

Baffled.

Is it time for new printer as work backlog increases?

Thanks for help.

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂

I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

As I understand the HP Office jet 4635 isn't printing as it should,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Have you attempted to reseat the black cartridge?

Did you follow all the steps suggested by MKazi and yet have issues?

While you respond to that, here's what you could attempt:

Solution one: Remove the black cartridge

If you just set up your printer and you notice that black ink is missing or faded on your printouts, follow these steps to remove the black cartridge and print only with the tri-color cartridge. This allows the printer to operate in single-cartridge mode, which creates composite black from the tri-color cartridge.

  1. Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already on.

  2. Locate the slots on the left and right sides of the printer.

  3. Slide your fingers into the two slots, and then gently lift up to open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the cartridge access area. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before you continue.

I followed your instructions & the previous from MKAZI. I now replaced black cartridge & printer responded in the fashion that HP would like & myself. What a simple solution to a very disturbing problem. More so what could have caused this problem? Very nice to know that such capable people available to resolve these issues. This is why I stay with HP products & legitimate  HP ink.

Thank you thank you.

Unfortunately I am back again about the same printer HP4635. Printing excellent, and successfully. Today I needed to scan with the results not very clear legible or easy to read. Perhaps a better description possibly smudged not very clear to read.

With all the solutions received I feel certain you have another in your satchel. I cleaned the scan surface. Copies are clear.

Thanks for your continues help.
