My HP 7520 keeps turning itself on. I don't know why or how. Is it trying to access the internet and download updates? If so, how do I turn this feature off?

Thanks in advance...

Hey Skanter,

I want to make sure I understand the situation at hand completely.  If your printer is turned off via the power button, then at some point it will turn itself back on without anyone present to press the button?  Or, does you printer after a period of time being on then turn itself off?

I would check to make sure the printer is plugged into a direct wall outlet (not a surge protector, power strip, or battery backup).  If this is the case and the printer randomly is turning on, then the printer is having an electrical problem with the power switch.

In this case, I would advise calling HP Tech Support about this printer.  If you live in the US or Canada, then the number to dial is 1-800-474-6836.  If you do not live in one of these regions, then please click here to access the global contact list for HP Tech Support.

Printer is plugged into a power strip. I shut it down with power button, LCD says "shutting down", light goes off.

Then at some random time, maybe the next day, it powers on by itself. This has happened many times.

Im not sure what the power strip has to do with it - the printer is shut down, power light is off.

Hey,

Power strips share the available current across the devices and ports of the strip.  This can cause noise or feedback from other devices within the circuit.

If you plug the unit into a direct wall outlet does the outcome change?

I will plug into wall, then will have to wait a few days to see if unit turns itself on. I'll update later, thanks...

I await the news if the product still turns on at random.  If the unit does, then I would advise calling HP Tech Support using the information above about this printer.

Let me know the results.

Hey,

Thanks for the update.  I would definitely call HP and report your issue/findings.  It sounds like the power switch inside the printer is having an issue.

Let me know the results and if you need any further assistance,

Jason
