Hello,
Starting yesterday, I've been having a serious issue with my HP 7740. It was printing a document and halfway through, it stopped. The display on the printer screen showed "Printing" with the endless circle. I left the printer for about 30 minutes and nothing else happened. So I canceled that print job and tried to print a single sheet. The document showed in the printer's print queue, the printer clicked twice and the screen showed "Printing"; however, the printer never made any noise or attempts to print the document. I've repeated this several times with the same results. Today I continued trying to troubleshoot the issue, the HP Print and Scan Doctor was useless. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the printer and drivers as noted in several other posts. I've also tried to see if the printer would at least make a copy, but it also failed to do that.
Any advice or assistance with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Let's try to reset the Printer here:
Reset the product
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
- Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.
Also, try connecting the Printer to a different wall outlet directly.
Let's also do a firmware update: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02919168
Let me know if this helps.

Hi,
I've tried both of the suggested solutions prior to my post several times, and I've tried them again after your suggesting, but the print still will not print, copy, or scan. Both the firmware and drivers are the latest.

If the issue persists using a different wall outlet, partially lift the scanner lid, and then press the Copy button or icon. If the scanner light does not illuminate or move across the glass, it could be a hardware issue.

Hi. I tried your suggestion. When I first turn on the printer the scanner moved and illuminated as normal. However, when I tried to copy a document, the scanner did not move at all or illuminate. The printer display said "copying" but the printer stayed silent and never performed the action.

I recommend you to contact the HP Support Team regarding this as this could be a hardware issue.
