HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 All-in-One Printer

My HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 is stuck on "Verifying" and won't turn off or do anything! I have to unplug it to turn off, and have tried unplugging at wall too but still does it when plugged in again. Never happened before and no known reason why. I am on macOS Sonoma 14.6 which I didn't see in your drop down menu above. It has worked fine and all modes until this week.

Hi @jtprinter,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your printer that is stuck on verifying or not booting up.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, I'm here to help you today.

Please follow the steps below to fix the issue.

A) Perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to restore factory defaults.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day

Hello Irwin... No I cannot do a power drain since #1 cannot be done. The printer will not move at all. It is stuck in verifying. I already tried to take cartridges out but it won't budge. I cannot do anything but unplug. It is a useless machine at this point. This just happened all of a sudden. Could a power surge, or solar flare influence the printer?? I am clueless why this happened when it was working fine! Please read everything I did again.

I have the same issue.   Inconvenient that the warranty has now expired.

I cannot access the cartridges.  I can't update the firmware, since that apparently doesn't work over USB

Changing USB cord / port has no effect.  Suggestions welcome.

HP 9015e.

Yes, I have the same issue.  Power off / on  has no effect.  i cannot access the cartridges.  The unit is connected by USB; I replaced USB cable, and used a different USB port on my Windows 10 PC.

Same result,  Just a message that the printer is "Verifying."

I have a secondary issue with my HP login.   I've forgotten my password.  When I use the lost password link on the HP page, HP sends the the email message to somewhere, but not to my email address.  It doesn't let me establish a new account, because it says there is already one associated with my email address,   Right now, my only access is via Google, but  I would much rather log in my HP account directly.

What do I need to do?

Thanks for your help!

Hi @rpg225,

It sounds like you're in a bit of a tricky spot with your HP login. I can guide you through a couple of steps that may help you resolve the issue:

Check the Email Address: When you use the "Forgot Password" link, make sure you are checking the correct email inbox. Sometimes, people accidentally use the wrong email or might have a secondary email address associated with the account. If you have multiple emails, try searching for the reset email in those as well.

Clear Cache/Cookies or Use Incognito Mode: Sometimes, login issues arise from saved cookies or cache in the browser. Try clearing them, or use an incognito window to attempt the reset process again.

Check Spam/Junk Folder: Sometimes, password reset emails can end up in your spam/junk folder. Make sure to check there as well.

Use the Google Login: Since you can access the account via Google login, try to log in using that method and then update your password or account details from within the HP account settings. This might give you more control over your login preferences.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I had the same issue!  I could not find a solution online; so I ended up calling HP.  The support person asked me what I saw *exactly* on the screen.  That;s when I noticed the "X" in the lower left-hand corner of the Verifying box.  I pressed the X: and the printer exited verifying and powered up!  It is now working fine!  I have even turned it off and back on!
