Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am at a loss with this printer. It's a HP 9025 model of the 9020 series. I bought genuine ink for it and installed and I was receiving the "This printer is not designed to use continuous ink systems" error. I have tried 3rd party inks as well. Then i get the chip isn't compatible. I bought a brand new print head thinking that might be the problem. SAME ISSUE. No idea why it's saying this. I am really starting to hate this company. I believe their firmware screwed up my printer and now it's out of warranty and they won't help. Nor will they provide old firmware....

I found old firmware (HPOJP-9020-9022-9025-005.2222A) file on a reddit thread, which is able to open and see the printer, but in the status area it says "NOT APPLICABLE". Not sure how to change that to allow me to install old firmware in hopes it will fix the issue.

I saw this link on HP's website but can't quite understand what to type. https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/HP-OJ-6500-firmware-update-Not-applicab... I have extracted a .ful2 file from the .exe file above to my desktop. Unsure what I am supposed to write on this line besides replacing it with my file name fo rthe .ful2 file.     copy /b 6500A.FUL \\PC\6500A

The PC is that supposed to be my computer name?

The 6500A on the end, is that supposed to be the same name as the .fu2 file?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

In regards to the .ful2 file. When I input my computer name and rename the printer to 9020series, it says it copies ZERO files as the network path wasn't found. I must be doing something wrong

@island_style, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

I'm sorry you're having trouble with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9025 printer. I understand how frustrating this issue is, especially after trying new cartridges, a new printhead, and even looking into firmware.

Let me explain what's going on and what you can do next.

Firmware Downgrade

Unfortunately, firmware downgrades are no longer supported for this printer. If your printer is on a newer version, it will not accept older firmware, which is why you’re seeing “Not Applicable.”

Use new, original HP 962 or 962XL cartridges

Make sure they’re not refilled

Avoid mixing Instant Ink and regular HP ink

Reset the printer

Power it on → unplug the power cord from the back

Wait 60 seconds → plug back in and turn it on

Clean the contacts

Gently clean the gold chip on the cartridges and the printhead with a soft cloth and a little rubbing alcohol

Run HP Smart:

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

Reference: HP Printers - 'Incompatible Cartridges. This Printer is Not Designed to Use Continuous Ink Systems' ...

I hope this helps.

I appreciate the response, but this isn't helpful. As I have bought BRAND NEW ink cartridges that are genuine and they don't fix the issue. There must have been some automatic firmware upgrade that HP did that bricked this printer...I can't figure out why on earth it just randomly started showing up this random continuous ink system issue. PLEASE send me a way to downgrade the firmware. There is no reason that this random error showed up one day out of the blue. Nothing changed on my end.

Hey @island_style,

Thank you for your response

"I recommend trying a factory reset on the printer and letting me know the results.
