Error Message: The indicated supplies are not communicating correctly with the printer. after the most recent FW update was installed. The printer is an M479. I tried re-flashing the FW, but with the error on the screen the Update Utility fails the process and demands rebooting the printer. Rebooting and retried, same results. Removed the CMY cartridges, and it still fails. The printer is connected via USB.

OEM or 3rd party cartridges? If OEM and are not empty, you should open a support case with HP and inquire about getting the cartridges replaced. If 3rd party, you are going to have to back date your firmware to a previous version. This is most easily accomplished if you have the printer network connected so you can access the Embedded Web Server of the printer to turn on the option to downgrade firmware. You should be able to use the toolbox software to do this via USB but network tends to be less hassle.

They are OEM cartridges, and are not LOW. As for the older FW, I do not have a copy of older FW for this machine. And HP's FW site doesn't provide a link.
