HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One Ser
Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks

This printer worked perfectly on a pc platform  until  it operating  system was  updated.  I purchased brand new ink specifically from HP for this printer and installed it correctly. The test page prints out perfectly in color and black. But when i try to print out any of my documents it will only print out in black and white. i have tried printing from both Photoshop and Preview and from on Firefox and tried all setting options available multiple times but no matter what i do i can only get black and white to print from the ten plus documents i have tired. I was a graphic artist for 30 plus years so am pretty comfortable with printing but this has me stumped.

Hello, @SeeLove - Hope you are well 🙂

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums! I’d like to help!

I see that you are facing issues while printing color with the Deskjet 2540 printer. To assist you with this issue, I need to know whether the printer can make a "Photocopy" or not.

Place a color document face down on the scanner glass and press the color copy option on the printer control panel. Let me know if it makes a good copy or not.

If the copy works fine, try to reset the printing system as suggested below:

  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
  • Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
  • Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
  • Click the “Add button” (+).
  • Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
  • Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “AirPrint” would be selected)

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Good luck 🙂

DVortex thank you so much!  I followed your instructions and in addition i had to reinstall printer software but it now prints color prefectly! As a word of warning to anyone who might read this i did recieve a private message the first day i posted  saying:

"Please Call Technical support. Thank you! Support Number +1(877)-242-8594 Usa/Canada toll free Working Hours 10am - 6pm EST" which i did without even thinking it  might be a scam. The person i spoke to said my computer was "infected" and he could fix it for $199 when i said i could not afford that he knocked it down to $99 and also offered a year's protection for $299 thank goodness i just had paid all my other bills so could not afford his offers. i now see in the email a scam alert and will report the private message right now.
