Hi @tedd1,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand that your HP Deskjet 3512 will not wake up from sleep mode. I am happy to help you with this issue!

Please make sure that the Auto-Off feature is not turned on. As when it is off, you manually have to turn the printer back on after 2 hours.

Auto Power-Off

Auto Power-Off is automatically enabled by default when you turn on the printer. When Auto Power-Off is
enabled, the printer automatically turns off after 2 hours of inactivity to help reduce energy use. Auto Power-Off isautomatically disabled when the printer establishes a wireless or Ethernet (if supported) network connection. You can change the Auto Power-Off setting from the control panel. Once you change the setting, the printer maintains the setting. Auto Power-Off turns the printer off completely, so you must use the On button to turn the printer back on.

To change Auto Power-Off setting

1. From the Control Panel home screen, which displays Copy, Scan, and Quick Forms, select Settings.

NOTE: If you do not see the home screen, press the Back button until you can see it.

2. From the Settings menu on the printer display, select Preferences.
3. From the Preferences menu, select Auto-Off.
4. From the Auto-Off menu, select On or Off, and then press Continue to confirm the setting.

TIP: If you are printing over a wireless or Ethernet connected network, Auto Power-Off should be disabled to ensure that print jobs do not get lost. Even when Auto Power-Off is disabled, the printer enters Sleep mode after 5 minutes of inactivity to help reduce energy use.

Sleep mode

• Power usage is reduced while in Sleep mode.
• After initial setup of printer, the printer will enter Sleep mode after 5 minutes of inactivity.
• The time to Sleep mode cannot be changed.

In the meantime, please try a hard reset, by following the instructions in this post, How to perform a Hard Reset, by @Rich1. It is important that the printer's power cable is plugged directly into the wall outlet, and not a surge protector.

I would also recommend going through this guide, Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection.

I went and rechecked all my router's settings. In my router, the channel was set to AUTO so I set it to CH 11.

In security, WEP was already disabled. Router was set to WPA/WPA2 so I set it to WPA2 only.

We will try these settings for a day or two. I will certainly get back here and report. I really hope it helps.

Again, I apreciate your efforts. However, I have been fighting this printer for a long time so, please understand if I am sceptical. All I want is for it to print when I click print!!!

Hi tedd1,

You are welcome!

One other setting I would recommend is to make sure the router is only broadcasting at 2.4 ghz and not switching between 5 ghz. As the printer can only connect to the 2.4 ghz frequency.

Still working flawlessly!

Both computers have had no issues since making the changes suggested above. I am, once again, a happy HP customer!
