HP Deskjet 5740

My Deskjet printer hooked up to my windows printer is not printing. Both the power and resume button are blinking. I have tried cleaning out my printer and changing the ink but nothing is working.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

  1. Open the access door and observe the print cartridge and carriage. If the carriage is on the right-hand side, check for lint or paper pieces. Remove any obstructions. Move the carriage to the left and check for lint or paper pieces. Remove any obstructions.

  2. If the print carriage is on the left side, check for lint or paper pieces. Remove any obstructions. Move the carriage to the right and check for lint or paper pieces. Remove any obstructions. Then move the carriage back to the left side to make sure the print cartridges are stored properly in the capping station.

  3. Look inside the printer for obstructions along the cartridge cradle's path, such as lint or paper pieces. Remove any obstructions.

  4. Remove the rear access door on the back of the printer and check for paper pieces. Remove any obstructions.

  5. Reattach the power cord and turn the printer back on. The carriage should return to the left side and reseat itself on the capping station.

Let's try to reset the Printer here:

Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

  1. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  2. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  6. NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  9. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Also, try connecting the Printer to a different wall outlet directly.

Let me know if this helps.
