HP Deskjet 9800
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello!

So I have an HP Deskjet 9800, and am trying to print an image onto 13" x 19" Epson Ultra Premimum Photo Paper Luster (rated at 241gsm).

My problem is that my HP Deskjet 9800 will load the paper, but it just sort of pushes and pulls it back and forth before just sending the paper all the way through without printing anything on it. I am loding the paper through the back (as it is too heavy to be loaded in the tray), and have all the proper settings, but I don't know why it refuses to print on the paper.

Thanks,

Sam

So I ended up fixing my issue, and it wasn't anything that either of you said.

The problem was that the "Media Width Sensor" was giving a bad reading for my Super B photo paper, and then rejecting it. I turned it off in the following way (Windows 7):

1. Go to Devices and Printers

2. Open your HP printer

3. Select "Adjust print options"

4. Go to the "Advanced" tab

5. Then in "Document Options" under "Printer Features" click to turn "Media Width Sensor" off.

6. Enjoy printing!

Hi @saudino

Sorry to hear you are having a problem printing.

Could you let me know if your printer is having a problem printing all media or is it just this Epson Ultra Premimum Photo Paper Luster that you are having issues printing on.

Also please note that HP printers are designed to work best with HP media.

Thanks

Bryan

Hi saudino,

241gsm should be fine for your printer to handle, HP photo paper is a similar weight (up tp 300gsm). When you say that you are feeding the paper in from the back do you mean you have removed the back plate? This may be the cause of the problem. Do you have this problem with any other media? You could try feeding the paper from the front a few sheets at a time. I've attached a copy of the manual for the 9800, see here for details.

Please let me know if you resolve the issue otherwise I will try to help you further.

Many Thanks,

Francheska

The back plate is still connected, and it's just the size of the paper, since I can print on 8.5"x11" Epson photo paper of the same quality. I've already tried feeding the paper a few sheets at the time, and it just does the same thing.

I'm going to try to reexplain what's happening.

So I send a job to the printer, and the printer already has 13"x19" sheets loaded into it.

The roller feeds in the top sheet of paper very slowly at first, then it speeds up, ejects the paper a little bit, brings it all the way inline with where the ink would begin to be applied to the paper, then proceeds to push the blank paper through the rest of the printer. Then it proceeds to tell me that there is no more paper, even if there are several sheets left in the loading tray.

I'm really not sure what's going on here, so any insight at all would be helpful.

Greetings @saudino,

Thanks for accessing the HP Support Forums for extra support! I see that you are still experiencing issues with the 13 x 19 paper feeding and you are getting the message that there is no more paper. I will do my best to assist you with this issue.

It may be software related, download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it.
Let me know the results. You may have to reinstall the software, it might be corrupted causing this issue.

Try these steps to rule out a hardware issue: 'Out of Paper' Error Message Displays on the Computer, and the Printer Does Not Pick Up or Feed Pape...
