After a Win 10 update, my HP Envy 5540 All-In-One Color printer was no longer printing in color.
I tried everything, but after I pieced recommendations from several sources, including customers and moderators, I finally figured it out.
You don't have to delete the driver, just replace it by going to Device Manager -> Printers
FIX FOR HP ENVY 5540 COLOR PRINTING
Go to DEVICE MANAGER / PRINTERS
Right click on the HP Envy 5540 icon and select Update Driver.
Select Browse my computer for driver software.
Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
Select Microsoft IPP Class Driver.
Click on Next.
I now get the option to print in black & white, or in color when clicking on Printer Properties.

ENVY 5540 in the time of Corona Virus : suddenly lost ability to print colour, and no means of switching off greyscale. Lost half a day messing around with it to no avail. Missed deadline for posting documents and sodding Bank Holiday on Monday - so it's curtains for me. Queue for half an hour at Tesco to get new colour cartridge thinking that was the problem (risking CV-19 and arrest by police for violating lockdown - as I'm over70). Yards of people with same problem on Website, but suggested remedies not working. Despair - absolute despair - until I found the lovely Asmita and her suggestion re. IP address. God bless her. It seems to have worked. But why did this happened in the first place? I though I was going to have to go out and buy a new printer. And it was an essential item, officer
