HP Envy series 110
macOS 10.14 Mojave

I used the printers web admin interface to change the devices name on the network, and whatever I try to use it shows up on my routers admin web page with a device name that contains the letters "HP" + MAC Address of the printer.

[edit]

All other devices on the network show up as expected

@jereeves, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Let us try this-

Once you change the hostname on the printer's EWS page > click Apply, disconnect the printer from the network i.e., turn off the WiFi and turn it back on.

Now check the router page to see if there is any difference.

Let me know if that helps.

Cheers 🙂

It still retains the HP + MAC Address as its name

It did not help.

The problem remains unresolved.

You can change the name of the printer only on the MAC after installing it.

Go to System preferences > Printers and scanners > Select your printer > Options and supplies > Edit the name as required.

The Printer has an encrypted name in the firmware of the printer and it cannot be changed either through EWS or on the printer.

If you would like to change the Wi-Fi Direct password, login settings, and printer name, follow these steps:

Go to the EWS page of the printer.

  1. Opening the Wi-Fi Direct status details

  2. On the Wi-Fi Direct Status screen, click or tap Edit Settings to make any changes, and then click or tap Apply.

I have tried changing the Network name of the printer, on the printers configuration web page. name = Printer-110

I have tried setting the name on the Macintosh Printer control panel, name = ENVY 110 Series

But when I look at my routers list of connected devices, it shows up with a totally different name from either setting,  see 192.168.1.202 , HPE4115B040EEC

Unfortunately, this cannot be changed either through EWS or on the printer as mentioned in my previous post.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

Why would the behavior of the HP 5540 printer be any different than the Envy 110 series printer.

I am able to change the HP 5540's name on its configuration web page.

Notice how I changed the name from my  previous  post (the suffix changed from "PR" to "Office"
