I just purchased an HP Envy 4500 and cannot get the screen language on the printer to change from Chinese to English.  Please help. I'd rather not pack it up and take it back to the store.

Hi,

Please try on the printer control panel:

Touch settings (the most right) icon,

Touch the second line (the first line is the menu name)
Touch the second line again (the first line is the menu name)

Regards

Unfortunately this did not help for the HP Envy 4500.  The printer screen is not a touch enabled screen. There is a home button on the left and then there are up, down and ok buttons on the right.  I can only scroll up and down, not left to right. The steps you provided just caused a page to print and no settings where changed. The language is still Chinese.

Did you ever get this problem resolved?  I have the same issue and can't find any answers.

Thanks!

Same problem.  In addition to finding out how to resolve the problem, I would also like to understand the root cause so I can prevent future occurance of this anomaly.

Detailed instructions on how to change the setting for this specific printer (ENVY 4500) would be helpful.  Alternatively, if there is a way to reset the printer to factory default settings and begin the setup process from scratch would get me working again.

Had the same problem - brand new HP Envy 4500 out of the box with the lanaguage already set to Chinese.

Here are the steps to change the language to English:

  1. Press the Home button
  2. Use the down arrow to select the eighth line and press OK:

  3. The first line will be selected - press OK:

  4. The first line (English) will be selected - press OK (sorry about the poor photo):

  5. You will be asked to confirm your selection - press OK again.
  6. That's it!

Earlier today I bought an Envy 4507 (a specially produced version of the 4500 for the UK electrical supplier, Currys).  I too plugged it in and switched it on - and everything appeared in Chinese.  Thank you Miles for posting your fix.  Without you I would be heading back tomorrow for my money back!

This information worked with my printer and I think it was in Dutch. Some children changed the language while playing. I used the directions and it worked. Thank you very much.
