Hi @chics,

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums for a solution to your printer issue.

I understand that you are using an HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer with a Windows 10 PC, and the printer's Paper Tray Extender is stuck in the closed position. I would like to help with that.

Start by performing a Power Reset on the printer.

Next try doing a copy using the printer's control panel to see if the tray extender will extend.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

In fact, if this helps you to reach a solution, please click the "Accept as Solution", and the "thumbs up" buttons down below in this message. 🙂

Hi, thanks for your response.  It turns out that the extender came out when I tried printing something other than from a particular web site.  The file must have been corrupted, so I'm all squared away now.

I understand the frustration that you're experiencing. If you followed the steps recommended by my colleague @rb011 on this thread and the issue is still not resolved, you can try the Semi-Full Reset. I can send you that information in a private message. In the forum beside your handle name just click on the envelope to view it.

  • Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet (don't use a power bar or a surge protector).

If you completed all the preceding steps and your product still has an issue, service the product.

Hey there! @Hator_Tots, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand you have issues printing from your printer and you keep getting error output tray can't be pushed in before done printing.

Don't worry I'd like to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Try doing a copy using the printer's control panel to see if the tray extender will extend.

Try the steps recommended below.

Resetting the printer can clear errors on your printer.

Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Wait at least 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
   NOTE:
HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Let me know if this helps!
Have a pleasant day ahead! 🙂
