So i havent used my HP printer in a while. I came to use it the other day and the printing quality was really bad. I have cleaned the printing heads and there is still some black and colour ink in the printer but it is still printing blue instead of black.

Also, when i have tried to print reports off i.e network reports, the printer sounds like it is printing before the paper comes out but shows on the paper when it comes out.

The driver is up to date.

Please can anyone help??

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

MKazi is at your service.

I understand that you have an HP ENVY 4524 All-in-One Printer and are facing print quality issues. The printer prints in blue color instead of black. You have done a remarkable job in troubleshooting this issue.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Are you using original HP ink cartridges or refilled ink.
  • Is the printer able to make a photocopy in black color successfully? If yes then it indicates that the printer and ink cartridges are all fine.
  • Do you have a spare black ink cartridge to check with?

While you respond to that. I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
  • Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
  • Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
  • The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector.
  • Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.

I suggest you to clean the ink cartridges manually as described in "Step 12: Manually clean the area around the ink nozzles" from this HP document.

If the issue still persists then you may update the firmware on the printer via this HP link. The printer needs to be restarted once the firmware is successfully installed.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Keep me posted for further assistance.

All the best! 🙂
