HP ENVY 5535 e-All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

OK - here's an update on a problem that's been occurring on my HP Envy 5530 for WELL over a year (!!!).

I've always been able to print wirelessly from my phone or tablet, but probably 15 - 18 months ago, upon replacing the ink,  I started getting an argument from the printer about whether the installed cartridges were "genuine".   Despite having tried twice with new cartridges from reputable brick-and-mortar stores (Staples, etc.), it still rejects the BLACK cartridge.   So what printing I have been able to do, has been in single-cartridge mode, using just the color cartridge.

Even more irritating, when I try to print from Windows 10, I get a message saying "No toner/ink".   Obviously not true, because I can print from my phone or tablet, and, in fact, when I run the diagnostics, and print the test page, that works fine.

I've done all the standard steps:   Update the driver, update the firmware, drain the power from the printer and restart, etc., etc,, etc.

SO MY BET IS THAT THIS HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ATTEMPT, SOME YEARS AGO, TO REJECT THIRD-PARTY CARTRIDGES, AND FORCE EVERYONE TO BUY "GENUINE" CARTRIDGES.   But that's just my guess.

The update is that today, just on a lark, I decided to see what happens if I try to enable ePrint and email a file to the printer.  Guess what???  IT WORKS!!

So, as I've proposed before, I think it's a driver issue, but I'd love to hear alternative opinions/suggestions.

Thanks!

Hi @drwob,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I'd like to help!

You may refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems. HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.

There are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why it's not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.
