HP Envy 5546
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Used to print fine but I suspect it changed after Windows update.  I have looked at several suggested solutions but they don't work for me.  I have tried uninstalling drivers and loading new HP drivers from HP website.  There is no option in printer properties to print in colour.  If I print a test page it is black and white.

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

Flower_Bud is at your service.

As I understand, you're unable to print in color,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

When was the last time it worked fine?

Were there any hardware/software changes made?

Are you able to make a color copy?

If the color copy works, I would suggest you try these steps:

Root level uninstall and reinstall printer drivers:

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Envy printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

To reinstall, click here

Let me know how it goes,

Cheers!

I'm not sure when the last time was that it worked because I don't often print in colour.

The colour copy function works ok.

I followed the instructions.  However I don't see any option under printer properties to choose to print in colour.

Thanks for responding,

Could you share a screenshot of print settings?

Also, let's uninstall printer drivers and reinstall using Windows built-in driver. Follow steps from the link: Click here

Keep me posted,

Cheers!

I uninstalled HP drivers and added a new printer in windows 10 (wireless).  Printer preferences look exactly the same and I can't find an option to select colour or black and white.

It looks like you were interacting with @Flower_Bud, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out.

As the copy is working fine the printer is working fine, this is an issue with the driver.

I suggest you try printing from a different application if the printer is printing from a different application it could be a problem with the particular application.

If you are still unable to print from the computer

I recommend you delete the driver at the root level and Install the drivers, follow the steps below:

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

Then, Click on this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-envy-5540-all-in-one-printer-series/54... to download and install the HP ENVY 5540 series Full Feature Software and Drivers.

Keep me posted, how it goes!
