HP 787064 Envy 7540 all in one series
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP Envy 7640 all in one series is 5 months old & used to work perfectly from the moment I set it up....until a couple of weeks ago now it won't print from Windows 10 laptop  but will print from my mobile device; however, my phone always shows my printer is out of paper but it's not and prints just fine.  Under settings -printer/scanner it just shows "Error"

It's plugged directly into outlet, shown as my default printer and the internet connection shows solid blue.  I also checked for printer updates and it shows up to date.  Ran troubleshooter and it could not detect any issues.  Help!

@LN6411,

Welcome to the HP Forum! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips!

I see that you are facing issues with the Envy printer installed on your Windows 10 PC. Do not worry, I’m here to help!

First off, let’s make sure that the printer hardware is fine. Place a document face down on the scanner glass and press the copy option on the printer control panel. Let me know if it makes a good copy or not.

If the copy comes out fine, the printer is fine and the issue is with the printer drivers. Perform a clean install to fix the same:

  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Envy printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Now click  http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/en7640/EN7640_Full_WebPack_40.11.1135.exe  to install the software.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Restart the computer and the printer and then to print and check.

Alternatively, you can go ahead and try to update the printer firmware, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to install the latest firmware update - http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/EN7640/EN7640_R1736A.exe

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.
